β€œI love you, daddy, / Let’s stay together.”
Ooh-wee, Cazwell! Daddy…and perhaps, Zaddy, must be hot, hot, hot πŸ₯΅! Shifting to the alternative Canadian singer-songwriter Jenna Doe, she asserts, β€œBut I know it’s too soon for me to fall / I’m not renting the U-Haul.” The stereotype: lesbians move quickly! As for the handsome and talented JORDY, he has an important question concerning a potential sexual encounter: β€œCan you HOST? Let me know / If you can, then babe, let’s go.” Daddy, U-Haul, and host are just a few of the LGBTQIA+ slang terms that are explored and soundtracked on An LGBTQIA+ Slang Soundtrack That #Slays.Β  This musical compendium is also giving bussy πŸ‘€, twink(s), pillow prince, pups, scissoring, coming out of the closet, femme, leather, kiki, working it, and being Q-U-E-E-R! 1. Jonny McGovern, β€œBussy”

Man Areas Β» Jonny McGovern Β» 2025

Jonny McGovern, Man Areas [πŸ“·: Jonny McGovern]

Β β€œBaby, I know you can work that ass / Move it all around, make the queen say, β€˜Yass!’”
Oh, snap, Jonny McGovern! D-d-damn, what are you gettin’ at, my guy? β€œPump it up and down now, work a lil’ harder / Do it for daddy, not for yo’ father.” When it’s giving daddy, you know this man is fine as hell, and clearly, you want to do nasty, unspeakable things… 😈. Of course, without listening to one note or lyric from β€œBussy”, given the title, it was clear the song was going to be G-A-Y πŸŒˆβ€ to the nth degree.Β  Of course, if you’ve followed McGovern’s music in the past, you’ll know that gay bops is what he serves up! Also, if you aren’t clear what bussy is, you naΓ―ve boy (or girl), it is gay slang for β€œa boy pussy, or an asshole” per Grindr.Β  Yup, it’s peachy πŸ‘!

When you name a song after a hole πŸ•³οΈπŸ€, you know that it is bound to be filled (🫒) with personality. β€œBussy” is lit from the get-go. The pre-chorus sets the tone for this NSFW, gay sex bop. Backed by a hip-hop-sounding, minor-key backdrop, Jonny McGovern wastes no time expressing his desires for that β€œBussy, bussy, bussy, bussy, bussy, bussy, bussy, bussy” because he β€œwanna snack on yo’ / Cookie, cookie, cookie, cookie, cookie.” If you couldn’t gauge, that is the chorus.Β  Yes, depth is involved, regarding pleasure, but the depth of the lyrics… not so much.Β  It is clear cut what Jonny wants to do, and why should he be ashamed? Sex-positivity is all the rage these days! Beyond the raunchy pre-chorus and chorus, the verses and the bridge highlight plenty of nasty, sexual thoughts and happenings.Β  In the first verse, the listener is enticed by adjectives such as tight and ripe. The second verse gets dirtier, highlighting the beauty of male ass (β€œFurry, fuzzy, thonged-up bikini / Ass is magic, booty Houdini”)! Beyond the beauty, McGovern urges to β€œDrop down, everybody pound / Fuck the floor, grind it down / Arch the back, wiggle, bounce.”  Also, shout out Pure For Men – stay ready, gays!Β  In the third verse, he β€œJust wanna clap it, squeeze it, smack,” as well as β€œRide it, pony, magic Mike.” And on the bridge, it’s giving β€œAss shot, thirst trap, do it for the likes πŸ‘!” Bold, liberated, and unapologetic about male booty, β€œBussy” is a blast sure to fill everybody’s earholes!

2. Jenna Doe, β€œU-HAUL”

β€œU-HAUL” Β» JJC Records Β» 2026

Jenna Doe, U-HAUL [πŸ“·: JJC Records]

β€œI met a girl, she’s from out of town,”
alternative Canadian singer-songwriter Jenna Doe informs us on her single, β€œU-HAUL”. Uh-oh! She adds, β€œShe’s been calling my number / Wants me to meet her mother / She’s a Ferrari that I want to slow down.” Oh, snap! You know what they say, lesbian relationships move fast, particularly U-Hauling. Doe captures a potential fast-moving relationship perfectly in this song. β€œU-HAUL” was written by Doe, Samuel Bierman, and Hannah Avison, and produced by Bierman.

Jenna Doe wants to slow things down, breaking the lesbian stereotypes. But this girl has other plans. She’s put her foot on the gas pedal. β€œShe gets kinda possessive,” Doe sings in the second verse, and admits, β€œDon’t know why, but it keeps turning me on.” Ooh-wee! It’s giving mixed messages, Jenna! In the pre-chorus, she mentions β€œplaying house,” and asserts, β€œShe’s got our whole future planned out.” D-d-damn! Still, in the crowning achievement, the chorus, she shares her reservations about falling fast and refuses to rent the U-Haul!

β€œI just wanna kiss girls on the weekend

So caught up in other expectations

Couple bottles then she wanna

Be the one to take me home

But I know it’s too soon for me to fall

I’m not renting the U-Haul.”

The question is, will she ultimately end up renting that U-Haul πŸ€”? Whether she does or does not, Jenna Doe delivers an entertaining lesbian alternative gem with β€œU-HAUL”. She sings expressively with sincerity, debunking the stereotype… for the most part.Β  Doe wants to have fun with girls, but she’s not ready to move in just yet, and there’s nothing wrong with that.Β  Commitment is hard, and you must be ready for it.Β  Supported by a rocking backdrop, she puts in work 🀘.

3. Grant & Ash, β€œA Twink and a Redhead”

A Twink and a Redhead (EP) Β» ATAARH Β» 2024

Grant & Ash, A Twink And A Redhead (EP) [πŸ“·: ATAARH]

β€œName a more iconic duo than / A twink and a redhead.”
Word, Grant & Ash. Grant Gibbs is the twink, while Ashley Gill is the redhead. Fittingly, the multitalented duo named this β€˜should-be-utterly-cringe’ pop song β€œA Twink and a Redhead”.Β  It’s not cringe – a bop has been served up! β€œA Twink and a Redhead” is entertaining from the start.Β  That is an understatement! It is sleekly produced (Drew Louis) and idiomatic of modern pop. The aesthetic is #fabulous! Grant & Ash both wrote this β€˜take it with a grain of salt’ song with Louis.Β  Depth is not the modus operandi, but slaying is! This commentary on the single is silly because the song is silly! β€œThere’s just two kinds of personalities / There’s the real, and there’s the fake,” Ash sings in the first verse, with Grant responding sassily, β€œPick one, just pick one.” He sings the pre-chorus, stating, β€œIt’s simply science.” Ash piques our interest in the second verse, not because of her reference to the Iliad.Β  β€œHot people, with hot personalities / Tight pussy and huge cock…” Whoa! In the second pre-chorus, Grant gets his in too – Twink death and a soulless redhead…  Maybe his most memorable moment: β€œYou’re the only bitch I’d go straight for.” She must be the shit… The music video ups the ante.Β  It makes you appreciate this novel song even more.Β  Plus, Grant looks fabulous in that crop top – just saying πŸ₯΅! If you need a carefree, fabulous, and fun bop, look no further than β€œA Twink and a Redhead”.Β  This duo is ICONIC!

4. Cazwell, β€œDaddy”

β€œDaddy” Β» Peace Bisquit / SNOWCONE Β» 2025

Cazwell, Daddy [πŸ“·: Peace Bisquit / SNOWCONE]

β€œI love you, daddy / I love you, daddy / Let’s stay together.”
Oh, boy! Somehow, I don’t believe that Cazwell is referencing his father. Take one look at the cover art (shout out Bob Bottle) for the single β€œDaddy”, and you know what’s going down! A fine, furry man with sick pecs, a toned tummy, and plaid boxer shorts? How could you not objectify Daddy? Damn! Cazwell wrote and produced β€œDaddy” with MASCFISH, John β€œJ-C” Carr, and Bill Coleman. Also featured as an artist on the track is 808 BEACH. β€œDaddy” also features an extended version. The sound screams gay club and sheer naughtiness with its sketchy, harder-sounding synths, and that hard-hitting, hella danceable beat.

Beyond the sleekly produced, minor-key backdrop, Cazwell keeps it incredibly gay and NSFW.Β  Would we have it any other way? What a man does in the bedroom, or various other places, is his business, but Cazwell invites us inside. β€œMet him at a hotel in Montreal / I licked his asshole and he sucked my balls,” he raps, unapologetically in the first verse.Β  He adds, β€œBust my nut now it’s on the wall / He calls me daddy. I don’t call him at all.” Oh, snap, rather, oh, jizz… Cazwell doesn’t stop there – there’s more to cum… Some of the gems include, β€œGot the buns? I got the miracle whip I’m spreading ya,” β€œSuck me when I’m snoring / Bust me when I’m yawning,” and β€œStill fucking with this felon / That I met in Oregon / Dick smack me back to the future. Delorean.” Hot mess! Cazwell doesn’t fuck around… well, technically, he does fuck around on β€œDaddy” 🀭. He brings plenty of personality and dirty, filthy, nasty S-E-X.Β  Fun and risquΓ©, this joint was tailor-made for hot, sweaty gay clubs everywhere!

5. Erik Lenfair, β€œPillow Prince”

β€œPillow Prince” Β» Erik Lenfair Β» 2024

Erik Lenfair, Pillow Prince [πŸ“·: Erik Lenfair]

β€œI came on a mission tonight / (With a craving deep inside) / I need the right type of guy / (Who’ll get the job done right).”
Oh, snap 🫰 πŸ₯΅ 😈! Handsome and talented Brazilian pop artist Erik Lenfair gets down to business on the sexy β€œPillow Prince” which is about craving dick. Lenfair penned β€œPillow Prince” while Elisio Freitas produced it. The modus operandi: SEX. β€œCome and get my love,” he sings, continuing, β€œBetter get warming up / Then baby you gots to take charge.” The desire and hunger are real as Lenfair lets this smoldering hot hottie dominate him. β€œI’m just gonna lie down / Super cute,” he asserts, β€œScream your name / Watch you rock it / I’ll be your pillow prince for the night.” Lenfair not only excels at his role as the submissive pillow prince but also shines vocally. He charmingly, sexily, and sweetly expresses his desires, amplified by a heaping dose of autotune, perfectly suited for this song.Β  It also doesn’t hurt that he’s composed tuneful melodies, particularly in the chorus, the crΓ¨me de la crΓ¨me of the pillow prince-ing. Freitas’ production is bright and bubbly, signaling the willingness to… The bass line is a thick…boy 🀭,Β  while the synths are sugary sweet sans being saccharine. Lenfair uses his influences fabulously on β€œPillow Prince”. Pillow Princes everywhere have an anthem!

6. Odus Moore, β€œTreat me like a pup”

β€œTreat me like a pup” Β» DistroKid Β» 2022

Odus Moore, Treat me like a pup [πŸ“·: DistroKid]

β€œRide it, slide it, bite it, get inside it / Come on, touch my body / I know that you like it, you can’t hide it / Come on, touch my body.”
Well, damn! Melbourne nonbinary music producer and queer content creator Odus Moore (them/they/theirs) is encouraging this nameless person to touch them on the naughty, sex-positive pop single, β€œTreat me like a pup”.Β  β€œTreat me like a pup” was released back in 2022, giving pups everywhere a short but fitting anthem.Β  And by pups, we’re not referring to the cute baby doggies, though there are plenty of attractive members in the LGBTQ+ community that are into pup play, which Quispe LΓ³pez brilliantly breaks down in a Them article. Is Moore addressing their handler in this spicy two-minute cut?

Yes, Odus Moore appears to be addressing their handler.Β  They express the desires of their, um, private parts. In the verse, Moore continues singing, β€œI can see that you’re getting excited / Come on, touch my body.” As they sing, the vocals are easy-going. While they are being overtly sexual, they never appear to break a sweat. All the while, Moore is accompanied by a relentless bass line and scintillating groove.Β  The backdrop screams S-E-X. Of course, so does the chorus: β€œTreat me like a pup / Little dirty bitch, I love to fuck.” Holy shit! Playfully, Moore also adds, β€œI wanna go, harder / I wanna cum, faster / I wanna last, longer / I wanna ride.” No further explanation is necessary.Β  All told, Odus Moore titillates something fierce on his NSFW, shameless dance-pop banger, β€œTreat me like a pup”. The BDSM is BDSM-ing, and who would have it any other way?!Β

7. JORDY, β€œCAN U HOST”

SEX WITH MYSELF Β» JORDY Β» 2024

JORDY, SEX WITH MYSELF AND IT LASTS LONGER [πŸ“·: JORDY / EMPIRE]

β€œMy roommate’s gonna kill me / Been having too much fun / I really should move out of the house.”
The fun that JORDY (Jordy Shulman) speaks about is naughty fun between consenting adults. Sex positivity is all rage! A hookup is imminent for Shulman.Β  The temperature between him and this smoking hot fella is hot πŸ₯΅.Β  β€œYou know I’d rip all your clothes off / Right here if we had this club to ourselves,” Shulman sings, continuing, β€œBut my intuition and your inhibition say / We should go fuck somewhere else.” The problem – the conundrum – in the sleekly produced β€œCAN U HOST?” from the album, SEX WITH MYSELF, is logistical. Where can they have sex privately? β€œSo, keep on talking to me / Yeah, there’s no need for this to stop / We can figure it out,” he sings, adding, β€œBut can you lead the way / And help get us out of this crowd.”  In this sleek, clubby, danceable bop produced by Mattisnotfamous, JORDY wants him to host. Gayish produced a compelling episode about hosting.Β  Once a private venue is secured, the fun is on: β€œGet a room, me and you / Find a friend and bring him too / Can you host, Let me know / If you can, then babe, let’s go.” Ultimately, β€œCAN U HOST?” is another sickening bop from the handsome and talented JORDY.Β  Sure, it’s a song about casual sex but should be relatable to anyone who has scrambled to secure a place to do it 😜.Β  Shulman sounds awesome on this sexy gem.

8. Sam Driborr, β€œOut of the Closet”

β€œOut of the Closet” Β» Sam Driborr Β» 2024

Sam Driborr, Out of the Closet [πŸ“·: Sam Driborr]

β€œI feel like a prism / Refracting light into a burst of colors to view.”
Those opening lyrics from the first verse of β€œOut of the Closet” showcase the brilliant pen of Portland, Oregon, singer, songwriter, and producer, Sam Driborr. There’s also physics referenced, which is cool 😎! He continues singing, optimistically, β€œI’m using my wisdom / To live each day like my world is brand new.” Those are wise, thought-provoking lyrics.Β  Driborr is embracing liberation! He is not stuck in the closet, which is a hairy place to be as an LGBTQ+ πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ individual. Fear, shame, and internalized homophobia can be a death trap. That is NOT the way that life is meant to be lived.

Instead of hiding the rainbow, he proudly displays it.Β  Bust out those Pride flags! He’s living his best life on this uplifting anthem.Β  Fittingly, β€œOut of The Closet,” written and produced by Driborr, was released just before Pride month in 2024.Β  Sam sings authentically and confidently from the beginning. The songwriting is impeccable. Both verses are poetically penned. The pre-chorus and chorus sections are sublime, too. β€œOne step forward / Is another step towards / An age of progress and change,” he sings hopefully in the pre-chorus, continuing, β€œWe may be older / But together we’re bolder / To see a new system arranged.” Yass! The chorus is top-notch:

β€œI’m glad to be

Out of the closet!

To know the meaning of being free!

Not bound by insecurities!

Out of the closet!

Not captive by indecision!

I’m born this way

Won’t go back again

I refuse to be the shirt I never fit in

I was meant to be seen and I call that a win!

Out of the closet!”

β€œOut of the Closet” should resonate with members of the LGBTQ+ πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ community. Who wants to live stuck in the closet? But this is a record that could also speak to those who don’t identify as LGBTQ+.Β  If you are bound by something, doesn’t it feel better to become unbound and be free? Who wouldn’t β€œrefuse to be the shirt I never fit it” after all? Sam Driborr dropped a gem.

9. Tom Nethersole, β€œTWINK”

TWINK” Β» Tommy Boy Β» 2024

Tom Nethersole, TWINK [πŸ“·: Tommy Boy]

β€œI hate the smell of cigarettes 🚬 but you’re making it look so hot.”
This dude must be fine as hell, Tom Nethersole if cigarettes are attractive! He adds in his single, β€œTWINK”, β€œThe burning tip resting on my lip as you suck in what you want.” Hmm, something tells me that Nethersole is thinking about a different sort of tip… β€œTWINK” is sexy, suggestive, and G-A-Y πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ! Nethersole makes it steamy with his vocal delivery while the production (bloomz) screams S-E-X.Β  So, where does the twink come into play? The chorus, my dears!

β€œBreathe me in like nicotine

Tell me I’m all you need

I’m all yours on all fours

Show me what it means to be your perfect little twink

Your perfect little twink.”

Those lyrics speak volumes.Β  Nethersole paints himself, or his character as submissive. He is emotional, but sexually, he wants to be dominated by his partner. Is he a bottom? It seems likely, particularly with the emphasis on little, aka the size of a twink, and little spoon.Β  There continues to be a mix of emotional and physical, as Tom wants him to think about him, but also wants them to grind and 69. β€œTWINK” plays superbly as part of the LGBTQ+ πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ soundtrack and as a sexy pop bop.Β

M/FΒ Β» Young Lust Β» 2018

Matt Fishel, M/F [πŸ“·: Young Lust]

β€œTell me /Β WhatchaΒ gonnaΒ do for love if you don’t know who you are?”
On β€œTwinks” (M/F, 2018), British LGBTQ+ pop/rock musicianΒ MattΒ FishelΒ explores the identity crisis of the agingΒ twink.Β Β IfΒ you’reΒ unfamiliar with what aΒ twinkΒ is,Β Urban DictionaryΒ describes it as β€œa homosexual male with attractive, boyish qualities.” Chloe O. DavisΒ provides a fabulous, more in-depth definition in her awesome book,Β πŸ“šΒ The Queens’ English:Β The LGBTQA+ Dictionary of Lingo and Colloquial Phrases – youΒ should totally indulge! Focusing on β€œTwinks,” the song,Β basically, asΒ theΒ twinkΒ is exiting his 20s,Β he’sΒ losing himself.

MattΒ FishelΒ embraces queerness in his music, adding ample entertainment.Β Β While an agingΒ twinkΒ is a serious identity issue within the gay community, listening to β€œTwinks” the song, how seriously do you take the plight of a namelessΒ twink? β€œIs it all over? / Now his twenties areΒ coming to an end,” FishelΒ sings on the first verse, concluding, β€œWhen he’s no longer aΒ twink, will they dance on his grave?” As the song progresses, thisΒ twinkΒ becomes older, butΒ doesn’tΒ know what part of the gay community he is. In the second verse,Β FishelΒ asserts, β€œAll his friends are enjoying other scenes / Bears, cubs, wolves, otters, and queens / While the clubs he frequented are full of twenty-somethings and teens / Makes him feel like some tragic has-been.”  IfΒ you’reΒ unfamiliar with all those terms, well, buyΒ Davis’sΒ book! YouΒ don’tΒ need to know them specifically, though.Β Β All you need to understand is this manΒ doesn’tΒ know who he is and quite possibly, never knew where he fit.Β FishelΒ is critical of him for being aloof from how he acted as aΒ twink: β€œClinging to youth like a narcissist / He’s isolated himself from his peers.”

11. Pansy Division, β€œFem in a Black Leather Jacket”

Undressed Β» DistroKid Β» 1991

Pansy Division, Undressed [πŸ“·: Pansy Division]

β€œI don’t like macho, put it away / Doesn’t appeal to me, straight or gay.”
That’s fair, Jon Ginoli. Furthermore, toxic masculinity freakin’ sucks! On β€œFem in a Black Leather Jacket” (Undressed, 1991), the first openly gay rock band, Pansy Division, prefer more feminine men.Β  In the chorus, Ginoli characterizes this boy who caught his eye: β€œHe’s a fem in a black leather jacket / And I wanna take him home with me.” Expectedly, as β€œFem in a Black Leather Jacket” progresses, more details are fit in over the said fem.Β  Even as Pansy Division embraces this feminine male stance, it must be noted that the music doesn’t sacrifice the masculinity of rock.

So, what makes this fem fine and hot? It includes a β€œCute little butt and sexy hips.” Ooh la-la!Β  Furthermore, androgyny is encouraged, with gender norms out the door: β€œHe looks as good in a skirt as he does in jeans.” Similar to Diana Ross on β€œMuscles”, the personality is not a priority. Ross noted, β€œThey say they have to see / His real personality / But that’s alright for them / Still it ain’t enough for me.” As for Ginoli, he sings: β€œHis personality, I’m not impressed / But I can’t wait to get him undressed.” Ooh-wee! All told, the two-minutes-and-change β€œFem in a Black Leather Jacket” is fab to the nth degree. Pansy Division proved the gays can rock TF out too and speak about LGBTQ topics.

Magic Hour Β» Polydor Β» 2012

Scissor Sisters, Magic Hour [πŸ“·: Polydor]

β€œBoots, ten, queen.”
Woo! One of the best and most popular songs by the LGBTQ pop collective Scissor Sisters is β€œLet’s Have a Kiki”. β€œLet’s Have a Kiki” appears on their fourth and final studio album, Magic Hour. β€œLet’s Have a Kiki” embodies elements of queer culture, which makes it truly memorable. This record is an education to those green regarding gay culture.Β Providing annotations to Genius regarding the song, frontman Jake Shears does a fabulous job giving insight.Β  This includes his experiences with gay clubs and those clubs being shut down by police for no good reason.Β Ana Matronic mentions this lyrically early: β€œSo, then I get to the club looking like a drowned, harassed rat and I’m greeted, not by Miss Rose at the door, but our friend, Johnny Five-Oh.” Of course, following Ana’s intro, we step right into the kiki, via the chorus: β€œLet’s have a kiki, I wanna have a kiki / Lock the doors tight / Let’s have a kiki, motherfucker.”  While β€œkiki” sounds sexual, it’s a misconception! Sure, Shears speaks of the translations of the word in other languages referencing private parts, but within the context of a song, it’s β€œa party for calming all your nerves / We’re spilling tea and dishing just desserts one may deserve.”  The killer reference that is Urban Dictionary confirms this: β€œA party including good music and good friends, held for the express purpose of calming nerves, reducing anxiety and stress and generally fighting ennui. May involve locked doors, tea, and salacious gossip.” Scissor Sisters make a kiki sound like a blast.Β  If you have never experienced the jubilant listening experience that is β€œLet’s Have a Kiki,” gurlll, u betta get on dat! This is the Sisters at their very best, and most QUEER!

RuPaul, Supermodel of the World [πŸ“·: Tommy Boy Music, LLC]

β€œAt fifteen, she was spotted by an Ebony Fashion Fair talent scout / And her modeling career took off.”
Three words: β€œYou better work!” And work the multifaceted RuPaul (RuPaul Charles, b. 1960) does on β€œSupermodel (You Better Work)”! Β β€œSupermodel (You Better Work)” is the opening track from the drag queen extraordinaire’s 1993 album, Supermodel of the World.Β  RuPaul wrote β€œSupermodel” with Jimmy Harry and Larry Tee. Eric Kupper produced it. Oh, and two more words: β€œSashay, shantay!”

β€œSupermodel (You Better Work)” features an intro by actress, comedian, and dancer LaWanda Page (1920 – 2002), excerpted earlier. Post-intro, RuPaul performs the confident, irresistible, model-driven chorus:

β€œYou better work (Cover girl)

Work it, girl (Give a twirl)

Do your thing on the runway

Work (Supermodel)

You better work it, girl (Of the world)

Wet your lips and make love to the camera.”

Woo! The chorus extends beyond that.Β  It’s called the post-chorus, and that’s where the work is put in! It’s giving β€œWork (Sashay, shantay)!” Woo! It’s not all choruses on β€œSupermodel (You Better Work).” RuPaul performs two verses, a bridge (with contributions from LaWanda Page), a refrain, and an outro.Β  β€œIt don’t matter what you wear,” RuPaul asserts in the first verse, and adds, β€œThey’re checkin’ out your savior-faire.” Oh, snap! And with β€œA million-dollar derriΓ¨re,” mentioned in the second verse, β€œYou had everybody’s eyes on you / Supermodel.” In the bridge, RuPaul namedrops 1990s supermodels by their first name: Linda Evangelista (b. 1965), Naomi Campbell (b. 1970), Christy Turlington (b. 1969), Cindy Crawford (b. 1966), Claudia Schiffer (b. 1970), and Niki Taylor (b. 1975).Β  It’s easy to be gagged by that list!Β  β€œSupermodel (You Better Work)” is a model-driven, LGBTQ+ dance/pop gem that speaks for itself.Β  Call it what it is, fierce as fuh!Β  It’s catchy, energetic, and epic to the nth degree! β€œSashay, shantay!”

14. The Irrepressibles, β€œWhat I Am! Queer”

Yo Homo Β» Of Naked Design Β» 2025

The Irrepressibles, Yo Homo (Deluxe) [πŸ“·: Of Naked Design]

β€œWe stand with all the men who can’t express their love.”
Amen! β€œAll of the women fighting against the oppression from men.” Amen! β€œAll of the queers who can’t express their truth.” Amen! And everyone who’s afraid of rejection for being themselves.” And again, I say, amen! Those of us who identify as queer want to live our lives freely, without being accosted, bullied, disrespected, or repressed. The Irrepressibles released the moving β€œWhat I Am! Queer”, which celebrates queerness and looks forward to a better, more promising tomorrow. Jamie McDermott says it best himself: β€œFreedom is for everyone!”

β€œWhat I Am! Queer” begins minimally, with McDermott singing authentically, beautifully, and honestly. Supported by bass and finger snaps, Jamie hauntingly recollects a rough and tumble past: β€œAs a teen, I felt alone, no one to understand aloneness that I felt /… We were led to fear all the color in the night!”  Soon enough, he puts that ugly, repressed past behind him, accompanied by a grander soundscape, including chilling background vocals. Embracing his queerness, he sings out and proudly:

β€œDon’t expect me to apologize!

Who I am is painted in the skies

You think I’m wrong? I know I’m right

But through love, we’ll all make it.”

Jamie and the Irrepressibles are 1000% correct! They tell the truth as they preach about that β€œlife and it’s waiting for you,” and β€œa time where you won’t feel shame.” Sadly, many don’t see the pain inflicted upon queer individuals. They are stuck in holier-than-thou, narrow-minded ways. But, this song is not about wallowing in pain or sorrow – it’s about living life proudly! Beyond its marvelous vocals and pitch-perfect songwriting, the musical arrangement is EPIC. There are layers of striking rhythmic strings and choral vocals that elevate the musicianship to a whole other level. When all the parts, including string and choral parts, are put together, β€œWhat I Am! Queer” is breathtaking. This is an awesome, uplifting song that everybody needs to hear!
