In the 15th edition of Face Off (2026), pop superstar Justin Bieber and English singer-songwriter Arlo Parks face off for the best rendition of “YUKON.”
Ah, let the Face Off begin! The sun has set on Head 2 Head (2021 – 2025), but the musical competition has “only just begun”, Karen Carpenter! In Face Off, musicians compete to determine who delivered the best version of a song. In most cases, the musicians are performing the same song or a remix, rearrangement, or variation. Each performance will be evaluated for vocal or instrumental performance, production, and so forth. After blurbing about each performance, I will briefly deliberate and deliver a verdict about who wins the Face Off. Draws and ties are acceptable, but in most cases, one band, group, or musician will get the edge. In the 15th edition of Face Off (2026), Justin Bieber and Arlo Parks face off for the best rendition of “YUKON”. May the best musician win!

1. Justin Bieber, “YUKON”
SWAG » ILH Production Co. LLC / Def Jam Recordings » 2025
“YUKON” is a surefire pop banger for many reasons. It features a distinct, irresistible groove. The guitar is perfect as the primary accompaniment instrument. Justin Bieber’s vocal performance is the main reason why “YUKON” shines. He performs with unique, pitch-shifted vocals for most of the song. Even though the vocals are laden with effects, Bieber sings incredibly smoothly. Some of his ad-libs are sung in his traditional voice, contrasting his pitch-shifted vocals. There are also additional ad-libs that aren’t Bieber’s (2 Chainz, specifically). Throughout, there are memorable lyrics and tuneful melodies. “In the Phantom with the roof gone / I pull up like Jimmy Neutron,” Bieber asserts near the end of the first verse. In the second verse, he informs her, “Just wanna be the one to give you what you want / I could put you in the Yves Saint Laurent.” There’s no doubt Bieber has the means to do so! The pre-chorus and chorus take the cake, lyrically. In the pre-chorus, he blesses us with the memorable “Slide city, slide city / You know what that means” lyrics 😈. Of course, the chorus is kind of a big deal, too: “What would I do (What would I do?) / If I didn’t love you, baby?” All told, “YUKON” ranks among the best moments from SWAG. Bieber does his big one on this one!

2. Arlo Parks, “Yukon”
Arlo Parks » “Yukon” » 2026
One of the best moments from Justin Bieber’s 2025 Grammy-nominated album, SWAG, was his Grammy-nominated song, “Yukon”. With a minimalist but striking backdrop and pitch-shifted, effects-heavy vocals, Bieber recorded one of the best and most memorable songs of his career. Covering a highly successful, Grammy-nominated pop song is a challenge. Talented English singer-songwriter Arlo Parks (Anaïs Oluwatoyin Estelle Marinho) proves she is up to the task with her own compelling take of “Yukon”, posted on YouTube on April 20, 2026.
“Yukon,” in Arlo Parks’ hands, features a slower tempo than the original. This is perfect for her. The minimalist vibes remain intact. Parks is accompanied by sublime rhythmic drum programming and smooth, soulful guitar playing 🤘. In no rush, Arlo lets the instrumental introduction ride out; she lets her guitarist cook. But when the time comes, she takes the reins. Parks delivers buttery smooth, easygoing vocals. She sounds like she never breaks a sweat. Her tone is exceptional. A stark difference compared to Bieber’s rendition is the absence of vocal effects. Instead, we get pure, warm, sensual, and soulful vocals. Parks cooks, and the resulting meal is delightful – nothing short of delicious. After listening to her hypnotic, pitch-perfect take on “Yukon”, it feels like it deserves to be released as a single. No extensive analysis is necessary. This simple but brilliant cover speaks for itself.

Deliberation
Ah, we’ve arrived at the deliberation! To Deliberate is “to think about or discuss issues and decisions carefully.” With that definition courtesy of my go-to, Merriam-Webster, briefly break down these two distinct performances with some notes!

Verdict

After much deliberation, yo boi, The Musical Hype, has reached a verdict. In the case… I mean, in the Face Off between Justin Bieber and Arlo Parks, Justin Bieber comes out on top! What was the difference? “YUKON” was a big deal for Bieber. It is one of the best songs from SWAG, and, one of the best and most unique songs of his career. A hit, it reached the top 20. Besides its status as a crowd pleaser, it was nominated for a Grammy. Parks’ cover is the sugar, honey, and iced tea. But, her own spin, as awesome as it is, doesn’t eclipse the higher profile original. Throw in that stripped-down Grammy performance by Bieber in his boxers, showing off his tats, and I’m not sure anybody could top that. And with that said, stay tuned for the next Face Off!
