Ah, it’s time to get cozy and cover up! In COVERS, we highlight a musician or band covering songs by another musician. COVERS focuses solely on the musician who covers.  It is open to established and lesser-known musicians. In the 13th edition of COVERS (2026), Arlo Parks delivers a compelling rendition of Yukon, originally performed by Justin Bieber.

“In the city, uh / ‘Member you used to drive a Yukon / I pick up whenever you call / In the parking lot in Tucson, like.”
Woo! One of the best moments from Justin Bieber’s 2025 Grammy-nominated album, SWAG, was his Grammy-nominated song, Yukon.  With a minimalist but striking backdrop and pitch-shifted, effects-heavy vocals, Bieber recorded one of the best and most memorable songs of his career. He didn’t do it alone; he is one of 11 credited songwriters. Covering a highly successful, Grammy-nominated pop song is a challenge. Talented English singer-songwriter Arlo Parks (Anaïs Oluwatoyin Estelle Marinho) proves she is up to the task with her own compelling take of  Yukon, posted on YouTube on April 20, 2026.

Yukon,” in Arlo Parks’ hands, features a slower tempo than the original. This is perfect for her. The minimalist vibes remain intact. Parks is accompanied by sublime rhythmic drum programming and smooth, soulful guitar playing 🤘. In no rush, Arlo lets the instrumental introduction ride out; she lets her guitarist cook.  But when the time comes, she takes the reins.  Parks delivers buttery smooth, easygoing vocals. She sounds like she never breaks a sweat.  Her tone is exceptional.  A stark difference compared to Bieber’s rendition is the absence of vocal effects. Instead, we get pure, warm, sensual, and soulful vocals. Simply put, Parks cooks, and the resulting meal is delightful – nothing short of delicious.  After listening to her hypnotic, pitch-perfect take on Yukon, it feels like it deserves to be released as a single.  Or, perhaps a duet with Bieber? Let’s manifest this. Regardless, no extensive analysis is necessary.   This simple but brilliant cover speaks for itself.
