ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.Β  I, the quirky founder, and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.Β  This week, I picked out 8 notable observations from the Billboard 200 πŸ“‰, Β and 6 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 πŸ“‰, with πŸŽ™ Adele remaining no. 1 on the Billboard 200 while πŸŽ™ Juice WRLD debuts posthumously in the runner-up slot.

Billboard 200 πŸ“‰

Adele, 30 [πŸ“·: Melted Stone / Columbia]πŸ’­ πŸŽ™ Adele spends her fifth consecutive week atop the Billboard 200 with the unstoppable πŸ’Ώ 30. According to Keith Caulfield of Billboard, she’s moved another 212,000 units this week!

πŸ’­ Rapper πŸŽ™ Roddy Ricch earns the highest debut on the Billboard 200. His sophomore album, πŸ’Ώ Live Life Fast, debuts at no. 4.Β  His numbers – 62,000 units – are down ⬇ from his 2019 debut, πŸ’Ώ Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, are down (no. 1, 101,000 units).

πŸ’­ After debuting in the runner-up slot last week, πŸŽ™ Juice WRLD sees πŸ’Ώ Fighting Demons spend a second week in the top-10, albeit it ⬇ down 7 spots to no. 9.

πŸ’­ Comedian/singer πŸŽ™ Bo Burnham re-enters the Billboard 200 at no. 10 with πŸ’Ώ Inside (The Songs).Β  The album has spent 22 weeks on the charts and peaked at no. 7.

πŸ’­ It hasn’t happened much in 2021, but country singer πŸŽ™ Morgan Wallen sees his double-platinum album, πŸ’Ώ Dangerous: The Double Album, slide outside of the top 10 (⬇ no. 6 to no. 12).

πŸ’­ K-pop collective πŸŽ™ NCT debut at no. 20 with πŸ’Ώ Universe: The 3rd Album, Neo Culture Technology (2021).Β 

πŸ’­ After a so-so debut at no. 22, πŸŽ™ Rick Ross sees πŸ’Ώ Richer Than I Ever Been free fall to no. 124 in its second week. Like, day-ummm! Things were worst for πŸŽ™ Alicia Keys, whose final major label album prior to becoming independent, πŸ’Ώ Keys, fell off the Billboard 200 completely following its modest no. 41 debut.

πŸ’­ That new πŸŽ™ Chief Keef album – well – it didn’t perform well! πŸ’Ώ 4NEM launches tepidly at no. 141.


Billboard Hot 100 πŸ“‰

Mariah Carey, Merry Christmas [πŸ“· : Sony Legacy]πŸ’­ πŸŽ™ Mariah Carey spends a second consecutive week at no. 1 with her beloved Christmas classic, 🎡 β€œAll I Want For Christmas Is You.” 

πŸ’­ Only two singles in the top-10 of the Hot 100 this week are NOT holiday songs: πŸŽ™ Adele, 🎡 β€œEasy on Me” (no. 5) and πŸŽ™ The Kid LAROI & πŸŽ™ Justin Bieber, 🎡 β€œStay” (no. 9).

πŸ’­ πŸŽ™ Lil Durk earns the highest debut on the Hot 100 (no. 14) with 🎡 β€œBroadway Girls” featuring πŸŽ™ Morgan Wallen.

πŸ’­ Rapper πŸŽ™ Roddy Ricch earns some new entries from his πŸ’Ώ Live Life Fast album beginning with 🎡 β€œ25 Million” bowing at no. 77.

πŸ’­ The final new entry on the Hot 100, β€œDo It To It,” arrives from πŸŽ™ Acraze featuring the original artist, πŸŽ™ Cherish at no. 97.
