Bring on the bold, fierce songs! Bangerz N Bopz serves up background info and insights into songs across various styles, especially those that raise eyebrows and/or stir the pot.  Featured records can be classic or brand new. In the 65th edition of Bangerz N Bopz (2026), we break down “Job” performed by August Alsina.

“Yeah niggas it’s crunch time / And I’m just tryna eat just like a kid at lunch time,”
August Alsina sings on “Job,” the first full-length track from his sophomore album, This Thing Called Life. Alsina continues in the emotional pre-chorus, “Ain’t nothing standing in my way, I’m ‘bout to get mine, it’s hard work.” Alsina holds his own on “Job,” but he also gets a lift on this authentic R&B standout courtesy of a soulful Anthony Hamilton and hard-nosed Jadakiss. Alsina, Hamilton, and Jadakiss wrote “Job” with Ralph Jeanty, Sean McMillion, Sampha, and producers Flippa and JProof.  It samples Sampha’s “Hesitant Oath.”

He brings the real talk, singing, “Drug dealing, stacking, flipping just tryna make a living/ Baby shaking on the pole just to make tuition / Single mommas facing drama so they can feed they children / Niggas strung out on that dope just cause they had a taste…” Ooh-wee, that’s a lot! Life hasn’t been easy for the New Orleans contemporary R&B singer, who makes it his mission to paint a picture of the hardships through song. Anthony Hamilton performs one of the most crucial moments of “Job,” the chorus:

“Lord knows I work hard

But I still gotta stay on my job

‘Cause I ain’t tryna get laid off

Won’t stop ’til the day that I’m a boss, yo, it’s hard work.”

In the final chorus, Alsina performs the back half. Jadakiss gets his moment to shine in the second verse, delivering plenty of striking moments. “I’m on a hell of a run, I thank the Lord completely,” he spits, and continues, “I’m puttin’ overtime in, so I’m sorta sleepy / And I haven’t slept in years, so that’s sorta creepy.” A powerful, underrated collaboration, “Job” by August Alsina, featuring Anthony Hamilton and Jadakiss, will never NOT slap, PERIODT!
