Lil Durk (Ft. Morgan Wallen), “Broadway Girls” [📷: Alamo / Sony Music]Unlikely collaborators Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen – rap and country – drop a surefire crossover hit with “Broadway Girls.”

“T

here’s two things that you’re gonna find out / They don’t love you and they only love you right now.” Now that’s some damning stuff right there! Left-field collaborations can cause the mind to be blown.  Did anyone – ANYONE – expect 🎙 Lil Durk and 🎙 Morgan Wallen to EVER collaborate? I didn’t see it coming.  However, the collaboration materializes on 🎵 “Broadway Girls”.  So, we have melodic rap fused with country… Is there any way in H-E-double-hockey-sticks that this works? Believe it or not, yes there is!

On paper, “Broadway Girls” looks like the mismatch of all mismatches.  You have the East Tennessee country dude that was ‘canceled’ for a racial slur working with the continually evolving Chicago rapper. Two totally different worlds.  Nonetheless, both manage to share sketchy experiences with these women they can’t trust! “I’ve been kinda crazy ever since it went down,” Wallen sings expressively on the first verse, continuing, “I get kind of lost, and, baby, this what I found /Girls like you just wanna take me around, around and around.” Woo! Polarizing he is because of his ‘bad boy’ ways, what’s undeniable is Wallen has a great country voice. In the second verse, Durk asserts, “This tow just told me, ‘Don’t trust ‘em’ / Broadway girls a trap / They on me, they tryna finesse me / They see me with Morgan and know that I rap.” Oh, snap! Throw in production that combines both worlds (🎛 Charlie Handsome) and “Broadway Girls” is something.  What solidifies the hit status, however, is the chorus:

“There’s two things that you're gonna find out
They don’t love you and they only love you right now
If I was smarter, I’da stayed my ass at home
And leave them Broadway girls alone.”

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji ImageI can’t overemphasize the fact that “Broadway Girls” shouldn’t work. Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen – REALLY? However, ultimately, this is a crossover record that has hit written all over it.  If you can’t see it, well, you must be blind, blind, BLIND! Wallen sounds awesome (he steals the show), while I heart the fusion of country and rap.  I’d love to say I hate it but, I’d be lying to myself!
