Scanning the Charts – Billboard 200 & Billboard Hot 100 (8/29/20) – Taylor Swift & Cardi B who remain atop the Billboard 200 & Hot 100 respectively.

SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.Β  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye.Β  To reiterate what I said last week (Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion Top Hot 100), this column won’t be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that πŸ’© moving.Β  This week, I picked out five notable observations from the Billboard 200, and five observations from the Billboard Hot 100, highlighting Taylor Swift and Cardi B who remain atop the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100 respectively. Check out my takeaways!

Billboard 200Β

Taylor Swift, folklore [Photo Credit: Taylor Swift]πŸ’ Taylor Swift spends her fourth week atop the Billboard 200 with her eighth studio album,Β  folklore. All four weeks, folklore has moved 100K units+. Β As for the rest of the top-three albums, it should come as no surprise Pop Smoke (Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon) and Juice WRLD (Legends Never Die) continue to dominate posthumously.

πŸ’ Young Dolph debuts at no. 4 with Rich Slave. He’s the sole newbie in the top 10 this week.Β  The only other top-20 debut arrives courtesy of country singer Kane Brown with his EP, Mixtape, Vol. 1 (EP).

πŸ’ Many of the high-flying debuts from the previous week β€˜come down to earth.’ Luke Bryan sees Born Here Live Here Die Here slip from no. 5 to no. 23. NLE Choppa sees Top Shotta dip from no. 10 to no. 26.Β  Glass Animals earned their first top 10 album with Dreamland, but it takes a nosedive this week from no. 7 to no. 39.

πŸ’ Dave East earns the final debut in the top 50 with Karma 3, which launches at no. 36.Β  Burna Boy earns the final debut in the top 100 with Twice as Tall, which bows at no. 54.

πŸ’ With the release of a deluxe edition, the late great Mac Miller sees K.I.D.S. (Kickin Incredibly Dope Shit) reenter the Billboard 200 at no. 62.Β  RIP Mac!

Β πŸ’ Drake came pretty close to another no. 1 hit as β€œLaugh Now Cry Later”, featuring Lil Durk, debuts at no. 2.

πŸ’ Who says country music can’t make a big splash? Morgan Wallen debuts impressively at no. 6 with his new single, β€œ7 Summers.” Wallen’s hit, β€œChasin’ You” peaked at no. 16 and currently sits at no. 36.

πŸ’ Miley Cyrus, like Drake and Morgan Wallen, gets in on the debut action as well. β€œMidnight Sky” launches at a respectable no. 14.

πŸ’ Following Miley Cyrus, one has to go all the way down to the second half of the chart to find the next debut, which arrives courtesy of YoungBoy Never Brooke Again with β€œKacey Talk.”
