Canadian pop singer-songwriter Tate McRae has a comfortable life, sans fame in mind, in her pleasant single, “Housewife.”
“Think my paradise is tabloids and flashing lights,” Tate McRae sings, and continues, “Truth is, it’s more like loads of cash / And a nice guy and a life lived right.” Word. The pop singer-songwriter ‘said what she said’ in the first verse of her single, “Housewife.” McRae, Julia Michaels, El Guincho, Ryan Tedder, Grant, and Aaron Shadrow wrote “Housewife.” Tedder and Grant produced it.
“Housewife” is a pleasant listen. The production is modern, rhythmic, smooth, and well-rounded. The beat slaps, while the synths are bright and colorful. Tate McRae sounds true to herself vocally. Some love her; others, not so much. Here, she sings clearly, even if she coos more than projects. Her upper register is a selling point, specifically during the chorus. Melodically, there are some nice moments, namely the chorus.
“I just wanna make a lot of money, be my own housewife
You, you, you, y-you could be the one I’m calling honey
Be my sex on the side
You, you, you, you
Acres of open stars, headlights of prеcious cars, life imitating art
I, I, I, I, I just wanna make a lot of money, bе my own housewife
Be my, be my.”
The big takeaway is escaping the chokehold of fame and the pressures of it and the music industry. In the pre-chorus, she asserts, “This industry will try to kill you, kill you / But not before they try to bill you, bill you.” Instead, Tate has a comfortable life, sans fame in mind. Ultimately, “Housewife” is a win for McRae. Does it move the needle necessarily? No. If you enjoy her, you will like this. If you don’t, you’ll feel indifferent to it. It’s pleasant and respectable and successfully highlights the plight of fame.
