Grammy-nominated Swedish-Iranian R&B singer-songwriter Snoh Aalegra ‘brings it’ on her smooth, sultry single, “Karma.”
“I learned that I had sixteen lives with you / And in four, I side with you.” Noted, Snoh Aalegra (Snoh Sheri Nowrozi). The Grammy-nominated Swedish-Iranian R&B singer-songwriter adds in the pre-chorus of “Karma,” “But in one, I lied to you / And this is the price I pay.” Word. Aalegra, Joel Compass, and Josh Grant composed “Karma.” Grant also produced it.
“Karma” begins with smooth guitar. There is subtle percussion throughout. The other instruments carry the groove, primarily. Snoh Aalegra’s vocals are smooth as butter; she’s such a talented singer. The song features tuneful melodies and thoughtful, love-oriented lyrics. “Do you believe in eternity? / Was it just all a figure of speech?” she sings in the first verse, and continues, “Man, you had me sure we’d been there before / This love feels so ancient.” In the second verse, “The faith between us / Oh, it’s so dangerous / In every era of time, you remember, that one error of mine.” I dig the harmonic progression, especially during the pre-chorus, excerpted earlier. Aalegra sounds particularly beautiful when she ascends to her upper register during the chorus; it shines!
“So I let you
Because I have to
So I let you
Because I have to.”
Ultimately, Snoh Aalegra ‘brings it’ on “Karma.” Stunning vocals, thoughtful songwriting, and radiant production make this a sublime R&B song.
