“Changing brakes, changing diapers / Changing logs out on the fire.” Ooh-wee, that’s a lot of C-H-A-N-G-I-N-G! Fittingly, given those excerpted lyrics, Grammy-winning Christian singer-songwriter Brandon Lake’s single is named “Changing.” Lake, Jacob Sooter, and Hank Bentley composed it. Sooter and Bentley also played multiple instruments and produced it.

“Changing” features a folky, country-flavored sound. This suits the South Carolinian musician.  The single features rhythmic melodies during the verses. Here, Brandon Lake sings in his mid-register. Lyrically, he embraces ‘change’ cleverly during the verses. “Changing cities, changing planes / Changing out them rusty strings,” he sings during the second verse, adding, “Changing lanes, changing sides / Changing exits, missed the sign.” During the chorus, Lake ascends to his upper register. Notably, he highlights that “Some things just ain’t ever changing.”

“Everything but where I’m from

My favorite boots and the girl I love

Sunday morning, still believe

Red dirt on my Cherokee

Friday off, we’re goin’ fishin’

Saturday, we pull for Clemson

Stephen Wilson Jr. playing

Some things just ain’t ever changing.”

The chorus is the best part of the song where Lake rises to the occasion; it’s powerful and memorable. All told, “Changing” is a well-rounded, country-flavored Christian song. Brandon Lake sings beautifully, putting his heart and soul into it.  The sound suits him.
