Rita Ora, Phoenix [Photo Credit: Atlantic]In advance of her sophomore album, Phoenix, Rita Ora drops an enjoyable, if only quasi-memorable single, “Let You Love Me.”

For pop artist Rita Ora, despite some great moments in her career, she’s yet to experience her breakthrough moment. Ora is absolutely stunning, and her voice is impressive as well, yet, she hasn’t managed to ‘move the needle.’ “Girls” was a step in the wrong direction in my opinion, even if the bisexual anthem had good intentions.  On “Let You Love Me,” Ora is definitely on a more fitting path, but, does she do enough distinguish her from others? Eh.

“Let You Love Me” is a pretty tight record, mustering up only three-minutes and some change… seconds that is! The record is set in a minor key. Given the sound and title, the record has a sexy vibe.  Again, that fits Rita Ora, who sings well throughout. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the record is rhythmic, and embraces modern, electro-infused pop. The chorus represents the best moment of “Let You Love Me”:

“I wish that I could let you love
Wish that I could let you love me…
Say what’s the matter, what’s the matter with me?
What’s the matter with me?
Oh, I wish that I could let you love
Wish that I could let you love me now
Oh I wish, oh I wish, oh I wish, oh I wish, I…”

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Let You Love Me” is a well-produced, overall well-rounded, but not a game-changing record. Continuing on “Let You Love Me,” Rita Ora continues to struggle with establishing a distinct identity.  She sings well, but, that ‘next gear’ – that next level – is still missing in action.
