Rio Romeo, You’re The Piece of Shit | Beaming with Pride

In the 44^th edition of Beaming with Pride (2026), we highlight “You’re The Piece of Shit” performed by Rio Romeo. 

 

Are you ready to beam with P-R-I-D-E? Beaming with Pride highlights songs by LGBTQ musicians and allies, offering background, analysis, and discussion of the decadent bops served up. All genres are welcome, and both classics and new songs are recognized. So, without further ado, in the 44^th  edition of Beaming with Pride (2026), we highlight “You’re The Piece of Shit” performed by Rio Romeo.

Oh fuck, rather, holy fuck, Rio Romeo (they/them)! The self-described butch popstar comes out swinging on their single, unapologetic as fuck single, “You’re The Piece of Shit”. The chorus, filled with f-bombs and spirit, is catchy and epic to the nth degree. Romeo continues, “You’re fucked / You and your boys, you should’ve never fucking tried /…Die in a ditch / I hope that you and your grandkids and your great-grandkids’ grandkids have a horrible life.” D-d-damn… more like f-f-fuck 😳! Big-mad, Rio Romeo wrote a fantastic, ultra-dramatic indie-pop song. They produced it with Gregg Wattenberg.

“You’re The Piece of Shit” opens with memorable, rhythmic piano riffs.  The sound is sophisticated. The same could be said of the arrangement and production.  The awesome sounds arrive courtesy of keys, exuberant horn, a big, robust bass line, and those always potent pop/rock drums.  Of course, the star of the show is Rio Romeo, who brings playful, personality-laden vocals. I adore the tone of their voice as well as the theatrical approach.  The vocal arrangement is also high-flying, accentuating this angry affair.  The first verse sets the tone where Rio asserts, “I hope we meet up at some big party / With big-wigs and presidents and other stupid schmucks.” They add, “I probably won’t recognize you / ‘Til you say you’re stupid name and how could I forget?” That’s exactly how it goes down in the equally fun, over-the-top music video.  Rio has a bone to pick with this record executive, who nearly fucked up their life.  “Well, a platinum record later and who’s writing the rules now?” they sing in the second verse, and add, “I hope you say I’m a bitch / It probably would end my nightmare / That I signed it all to you and your grandkids’ grandkids / Oh, fuck.” Oh, fuck, indeed! The interlude that follows marks another intriguing moment, led by the unforgettable lyrics, “In perpetuity.” Throughout “You’re The Piece of Shit”, Rio Romeo keeps it a buck. There are plenty of swear words, which feel appropriate for this brutally honest song.  Despite a shitty situation that Rio experienced, “You’re The Piece of Shit” isn’t shitty in the least – it’s the shit!
