Grammy-nominated Georgia rapper Quavo delivers a dumb but utterly entertaining and hypnotic booty anthem with “Trance (Walk It Down).”
“Trance (Walk It Down)” begins with a four-count. You know what that means… It’s a Pharrell Williams production! The beat doesn’t disappoint. It’s electrifying and futuristic; it sounds like it was born in outer space. I love the bounciness about it. With Pharrell doing his thang behind the boards, Quavo delivers a compelling cadence and flow. He’s chill yet brings attitude and confidence. Beyond the melodic chorus, he goes unpitched during the verses. It should come as no surprise that ass is the theme. “Three-sixty, baby, turn around (Turn around) / It’s the summertime, she got her titties out (Shawty bad),” he spits, and adds, “Only shit popping is her ass and rubber bands.” In the second verse, “All the bad bitches want a new thing (Woo) / Throw it back, catch it like a boomerang.” Damn! By the end of the verse, Quavo asserts, “Locked in ‘cause I like the way that ass move.” The third and final verse offers more of the same, where he “Told her shake (Baow), no breaks (Don’t stop) / All ass (Where it’s at?), in your face (Ooh).” “Trance (Walk It Down)” is not sophisticated, nor is it meant to be. But, as an ‘ass anthem,’ Quavo keeps it dumb and utterly satisfying, all told.
