Q, hey there [i have a compulsive complex] [📷: Columbia Records]Q gives us scintillating ear candy with “hey there [i have a compulsive complex],” a creative,  enjoyable, and well-rounded song that catches the ear from the start.

“If you were to ask, ask me how I feel / I could answer you / But I won’t know if it’s real, my sugar / I’m trying to understand myself still.”
Q (Q Marsden) is honest in the first verse of his compelling, interestingly named song, “hey there [i have a compulsive complex]”.  A unique record, it lies somewhere in the alternative and R&B realm. “Hey there [i have a compulsive complex]” was written by Q alongside Romil Hemnani, Sir Nolan (Nolan Lambroza), Simon Wilcox, RHM (Rahm Silverglade), and Lobo (Roland Kent LaVoie). Q, Romil Hemnani, Sir Nolan, and RⱯHM ⚉ also produced it. Fun fact: “hey there…” samples “I’d Love You to Want Me”  by Lobo.

“Hey there [i have a compulsive complex]” is ON from the start. It kicks off with a great bass line.  As it progresses, a strong groove anchors, while colorful keys, sound effects, and programming provide the cherry on top.  Q’s vocals are delightful. I love his tone, as well as the vocal arrangement and production. “Hey there…” is melodious from start to finish; it’s easy on the ears. Besides being tuneful, the lyrics are memorable, as evidenced by the first verse, excerpted earlier.  The second verse shines, too: “I guess we hit it off, ‘cause I’m still right here / Passion overthrew everything / That I was scared of trying / I’m sorry that it took me so long.” The crème de la crème is the chorus:

“But hey there

I want you to want me

The way that I want you

The way that it should be (Hey, hey)

‘Cause baby

The more that I got you

The more that you got me.”

There are plenty of moments that highlight the creative instrumental music. The bridge section is fun and distinguishes itself from everything else. It features Q’s chanted/rapped vocals in an undertone. I love the playful effects-filled vocal during the outro. All told, Q gives us scintillating ear candy with “hey there [i have a compulsive complex]”.  This is an enjoyable, well-rounded song that catches the ear from the opening tip.
