Venezuelan Swedish singer-songwriter Omar Rudberg drops a carefree, entertaining, vibrant pop bop with “Careless.”
So, why do the ears perk up at the sound of “Careless?” Omar has a beautiful voice, and he gives us a heaping dose of his ripe falsetto. Even when he’s not singing in his head voice, his tenor shines. He never forces things, singing coolly, with ease. Beyond the voice, “Careless” is tuneful from the get-go. The lyrics, meanwhile, are memorable and, fittingly, careless. “I don’t care about PAPER; I might skip the interview.” Baby, we’re glad you didn’t! Other lyrics that stand out include “Couldn’t care less ‘bout a 9-to-5 / I don’t care if they care that I don’t care” (pre-chorus), “I’m tryna trace your heart, don’t need a northern star” (verse two), and, “When I make out with my friends they call me careless / Listen, honey, there’s no reason to be jealous” (bridge). Ooh-wee, baby! The chorus is the crème de la crème, where Rudberg states his priorities.
“I only care about you, you hoo hoo
I only care about you, you hoo hoo
I only care about you, you hoo hoo
I don’t care if they care that I only care about you.”
The other piece of the puzzle why “Careless” is the sugar, honey, iced tea is the production. This is sleek, vibrant, modern pop, PERIODT (I don’t care how much I’ve overused it, by the way). Primmed and polished, Omar has the perfect backdrop to put in work with his careless ways. In short, “Careless” is an enjoyable, well-rounded pop song from Simon Eriksson… I meant Omar.
