Are you ready to beam with P-R-I-D-E? Beaming with Pride highlights songs by LGBTQ musicians and allies, offering background, analysis, and discussion of the decadent bops served up. All genres are welcome, and both classics and new songs are recognized. So, without further ado, in the 58th edition of Beaming with Pride (2026), we highlight “Sweet Delusion” performed by Mike Taveira.

“Always want what I can’t have / Don’t know where I learned that.”
Nobody knows where they learned that, Mike Taveira. Sadly, it’s a common issue, one that’s plagued the human race for a long, long time. But our handsome (understatement) pansexual pop singer-songwriter is honest about his delusion early on in his single, “Sweet Delusion”. “Sweet Delusion” was written by Taveira, Bart Schoudel, Alex Koste, and Carly Paige.  Taveira, Schoudel, and Koste produced it.

Early on, Mike Taveira sets a sensual tone on “Sweet Delusion.” In the first verse, he envisions talking all night and “slow dancing through your mansion.” Ooh-la-la, to both the dancing with a hottie and the mansion, of course! That expounds in the refrain, where Mike “Lean in and lean right out / Pull back then kiss your mouth,” only to accept the fact “But I’m just a night to you.” One-night stand, that is.  Of course, the chorus is where the delusion is at an all-time high.  Mike is incredibly self-aware, but when it comes to beautiful things and desire, sometimes self-awareness goes right out the door.

“Call me your friend, get it again, hit it again

Say I’m the best you’ve ever had, then run back to him

I’ll let you do it time and again

My sweet delusion, yeah

I keep it light, sleep on the right side of your bed

I say I’m fine, but really, I’m screaming in my head

I’ll let you do it time and again

My sweet delusion, yeah.”

The first verse, refrain, and chorus establish those delulu vibes exceptionally.  The second verse continues the work (“‘Cause every now and then, I feel you leaning in”) 😏, while the bridge finds Mike a hot mess (“Skating on the midnight drugs / Out of my head inside of you”).  Even if Mike Taveira wants something that he can’t have, he does an exceptional job of expressing it.  He sings like an angel seeking the unobtainable.  Also, he gets a lift from vibrant, rhythmic production. Those synths slay! It also doesn’t hurt that these sweet delusional melodies are sweetly tuneful!  All in all, the delusions of “Sweet Delusion” are well worth it… to the listener’s ears at least!
