American Australian pop band Midnight Til Morning delivers a brief, pleasant, and well-rounded single with “365.”
“Baby, don’t throw this love away / ‘Causе you and I got some more to make.” Noted… it won’t be the last time you hear it, or I reference it, by the way. Admittedly, I’m a sucker for a boy band. American Australian pop-rock collective Midnight Til Morning, often abbreviated as MTM, easily qualifies on all fronts. The Netflix-built group looks the part (extraordinarily beautiful men), and they fit the mold vocally. “365” is a brief single, but Conor Jacob Smith, Zachary Newbould, Shane Appell, and Mason Watts make their point loud and clear. So, what is the theme: girls and L-O-V-E. Smith, Newbould, Appell, Watts, Evan Cline, and Conor McCutcheon composed “365.” Cline produced it.
“365” is pleasant from the get-go. There is a relentless, recurrent rhythmic guitar riff. In the intro, the vocals (Zach) are mixed in the background: “Baby don’t / Baby don’t, yeah / Throw it all away.” Shane lends his silky-smooth vocals during the first verse. “I know that there’s a million girls / Living all across the world,” he asserts, and adds, “But I only see your face.” Word. But it’s not all rosy in paradise, unfortunately. In the pre-chorus, Mason, understanding there’s work to do in this relationship, or lack thereof, sings, “I’m still not letting go.” From there, the tuneful chorus, led by Conor, with the support of MTM, follows:
“After all the times that we’ve been through
There’s no other girl that compares to you
Baby, don’t throw this love away
‘Cause you and I got some more to make
Girl, it’d be a shame just to let this go
Neither of us need to be sleeping alone
Baby, don’t throw this love away
‘Causе you and I got some more to make.”
Standard boy band fare, I’d say. Zach ensures baby don’t throw it away post-chorus. He also takes the reins in the brief second verse, where “I swear that better days are on their way.” Mason leads the pre-chorus once more, followed by another Conor-led chorus. On the bridge preceding the final chorus, the emphasis is: Baby don’t throw this love away. Ultimately, “365” is a pleasant, well-rounded single from Midnight Til Morning. Does it reinvent the boy band or pop music in general? No, but it is satisfying. And again, there’s just something about hot boys singing about girls.
