“Deus forte como Jeová / Não há outro que eu conheça.”
Amen! In English, it translates as “A mighty God like Jehovah / There is no other that I know.” Now, for those of you who had no clue, you know what you are Amen-ing to! The first time I saw her playing that tambourine on TikTok, I was hooked.  Brazilian gospel singer-songwriter Midian Lima is special.  As a Christian, most of the religious music I partake of is in my native language of English.  That said, as a musician and music enthusiast, I love all genres of music in various languages.  It was refreshing to hear a lively gospel song performed exclusively in Portuguese. “Medley – Corinhos de Fogo (Deus Forte Como Jeová / Divisa de Fogo / Vem Cá Vem Ver / Carros de Fogo / Jacó Segurou o Anjo / Desemborca o Vaso)” is spirited from the first time you hear it.  Rough English translation: “Medley – ‘Fire’ Choruses (Mighty God Like Jehovah / Standard of Fire / Come Here, Come See / Chariots of Fire / Jacob Wrestled the Angel / Turn the Vessel Upright).” “Medley – Corinhos de Fogo” is the 12th track on her 2026 album, Midian Lima (Ao Vivo).

“Medley – Corinhos de Fogo” catches the ear from the jump.  It’s that infectious accordion riff, I tell you! It sets the tone.  Add in the percussive groove, and “Corinhos de Fogo” is off to a fast start.  Interestingly, this is a dark gospel record.  How so? It has its minor key moments.  No worries, though; it’s not all B minor… sometimes, the home key is D major – much sunnier.  Anyway, Midian Lima compels with her big, high-flying vocals.  Her instrument is powerful, as she praises God throughout this lively medley.  You don’t have to understand one word; you can feel the praise, and all honor and glory go to the Most High.  Midian also gets a lift from an anointed choir of voices.  Among the lyrical highlights are “O meu Deus está no céu / Também no meu coração / O do mundo está morto, mas o meu ressuscitou [My God is in heaven / And also in my heart / The world’s god is dead, but mine has risen],” and “Liga, liga, liga, liga, liga nessa hora / Pede, pede, pede, pede pra Jesus agora / Eu quero ouvir só você, vai [Call, call, call, call, call out right now / Ask, ask, ask, ask Jesus right now / I want to hear only you—go ahead].” Ultimately, if you feel so compelled to praise in Portuguese, look no further than the uplifting five-minute-long gem that is “Medley – Corinhos de Fogo (Deus Forte Como Jeová / Divisa de Fogo / Vem Cá Vem Ver / Carros de Fogo / Jacó Segurou o Anjo / Desemborca o Vaso)”. Midian Lima, she did that!
