Michael Jackson x Mark Ronson: Diamonds are Invincible [Photo Credits: Epic, MJJ Productions]While it might’ve sounded good on paper, and some ideas aren’t too shabby, “Michael Jackson x Mark Ronson: Diamonds are Invincible” is unfortunate.

Let’s just cut right to the chase. Sometimes, the mega-mix is NOT a good thing. Mark Ronson is one of the finest producers in the game in my opinion.  Furthermore, we know that Michael Jackson was “The King of Pop” – nothing more needs to be said.  However, when you go to remixing, mashing up, and messing around with something that doesn’t need to be edited in the least, well, that’s when things get hairy.  That’s the case with “Michael Jackson x Mark Ronson: Diamonds are Invincible.” Ugh, ugh, U-G-H!

“Michael Jackson x Mark Ronson: Diamonds are Invincible” is just totally unnecessary, period.  I’ll give Ronson this – the concept is interesting, and I can see what he was thinking.  I’ll take it a step further.  Some of the ideas within this record are interesting as well.  That said, ultimately, a five-minute mega-mix simply isn’t the same or nearly as effective as hearing any of the Jackson hits included in their entirety separated from one another.  Yes, “Diamonds are Invincible” gives us a sampling of all things MJ, but, it ultimately sells him short, as well as Ronson short.

Final Thoughts

Perhaps somebody will be totally into this mash-up/mega-mix of Michael Jackson songs.  It’s not me, unfortunately.  For all of the reasons mentioned above support why this is a #fail.  Jackson was much better than this subpar, stitched together recording, as is Ronson.
