Megan Thee Stallion, "Girls in the Hood" [Photo Credit: 300 Entertainment]Hit-making rapper Megan Thee Stallion returns with another short, sweet, and fearlessly unapologetic banger, “Girls in the Hood.”

“Fuck bein’ good, I’m a bad bitch…” Megan Thee Stallion has had a terrific 2020 – FACTS. “Savage” hit no. 1 no the Billboard Hot 100 – the rare chart-topper from a female rapper.  Likewise, Megan’s EP, Suga, has performed well on the Billboard 200.  Even with so much success on her hands, she continues to ‘ride the wave,’ releasing a new single, “Girls in the Hood.”

“Girls in the Hood” is brief, clocking in at just over two-and-a-half minutes. We’re used to brevity from Megan Thee Stallion.  Even if she keeps it short, “Girls in the Hood” is sweet.  She has a knack for bangers under three minutes. The record features fine production work, courtesy of Illadaproducer and Scott Storch.  “Girls” features some old-school hip-hop cues (it samples “Boyz-n-the-Hood” by Eazy-E), coupled with a more modern, hard-hitting beat.  The sound of the record, hence, is a success by my estimations.

Of course, we know that the biggest factor in the success of “Girls in the Hood” is Megan Thee Stallion herself. The lyrics are aggressive – shocking… said no one ever.  As usual, Megan portrays herself as a bad bitch. She’s always unapologetic. That unapologetic nature includes being sexed TF up and asserting what she does to her men (“I’ma make him eat me out while I’m watchin’ anime”).  As with gems like the aforementioned “Savage” or “Captain Hook,” there are no shortage of colorful one-liners.  Of course, it is the catchy chorus serves as the centerpiece:

“I’m a hot girl, I do hot shit (I do hot shit)
Spend his income on my outfit (On my outfit)
I don’t text quick ‘cause I ain’t thirsty (I ain’t thirsty)
These bitches mad, mad, they wanna hurt me (Ah, ah).”

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Girls in the Hood” is another successful banger from Megan Thee Stallion.  Does she flip the game on its side? Absolutely not.  I’d argue that “Savage” and “Captain Hook” are much more potent. That said, Megan still has a good thing going on “Girls in the Hood.” If I were iin her position, I’d definitely ride that successful wave!
