In the 16th edition of 1 Hit WONDERful (2026), we highlight “Return of the Mack” by British R&B artist Mark Morrison.
It only takes ONE hit to solidify a musical legacy 💯! On 1 Hit WONDERful, we highlight songs that were the SOLE hit by a given musician. It is possible that the artists appearing on this list earned a minor hit or two, BUT for the most part, that ONE hit earned them recognition. So, in the 16th edition of 1 Hit WONDERful (2026), we dive into “Return of the Mack”, the one-hit wonder by Mark Morrison.
“Return of the Mack” is the sugar, honey, iced tea for many reasons. That drum programming provides a mighty anchor. It’s a catalyst for head nodding and foot tapping. The production and sound are sleek, with a robust bass line, colorful keys, and plenty of clever instrumental cues. The star of the show is Mark Morrison, who compels with his distinct, expressive voice. His tone catches the ears, while he draws you in with his confident personality. It also doesn’t hurt that the lyrics are catchy, and the melodies are rhythmic and T-U-N-E-F-U-L. “‘Cause I knew it from the start / Baby, when you broke my heart,” he asserts in the first verse, and continues, “That I had to come again / And show you that I’d win.” IT’s the Return of the Mack, baby! In the second verse, he’s “Back up in the game,” and here to show this girl who did him dead wrong! “So, baby, listen carefully / While I sing my comeback song.” Word! The section to beat should come as no surprise: it’s the chorus, which is infectious to the nth degree! Sing it with me:
“Return of the Mack (There it is)
Return of the Mack (Hold on)
Return of the Mack (Don’t you know?)
You know that I’ll be back (Here I go).”
A surefire 1990s classic, “Return of the Mack” by Mark Morrison, NEVER grows old. It STILL slaps!
