Do you know what day it is? It is Wednesday, folks! Do you know what that means? Why, it is Wacky Wednesday! In the spirited column Wacky Wednesday, we analyze and explore unique, unusual, or wacky songs from different genres.  These songs can be new or old; the only requirement is that they ‘catch the ears’ because of their distinctiveness.  With the background established, in the 18th edition of Wacky Wednesday (2026), we break down the unique “Mount Everest”, performed by Labrinth. Wacky Wednesday vibes commence!

“Mount Everest ain’t got shit on me.”
What?! D-d-damn, Labrinth (Timothy Lee McKenzie), that’s a bold statement! After all, Mount Everest is the shit itself –  the highest mountain in the world! Even so, the British rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer exudes confidence.  Adding to his confidence, “Burj Dubai ain’t got shit on me.” Face it, that man truly is “on top of the world.”  He wrote and produced “Mount Everest,” which appeared on his 2019 album, Imagination & the Misfit Kid.  Beyond his album, it was featured in the popular HBO show, Euphoria, soundtracking Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi. The song, which never reached the Billboard Hot 100, was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2025.

“Mount Everest” begins minimally with the left-hand piano (bass notes), basic drum programming, and Labrinth’s calm, cool, and soulful vocals. The melody is tuneful to the nth degree.  After finishing the memorable verse, the production fills in more.  Labrinth also performs his unforgettable “Woop” vocals during the chorus, which are the highlight of the viral Mount Everest trend on TikTok.  Take your pick of the best versions, including Grumpy Leanne & Maitland and OZIKOY – WOOP! Following the crème de la crème, Labrinth drops the second verse. It’s hard to top the first, but it still slaps.  Among the lyrical bangers from verse two: “I burn it down [my house] just for the fun of it,” and “I don’t pick up my phone, ain’t no one worth the time.” Oh, the narcissism! On the bridge, he continues to tout the fact that he don’t need anybody. He concludes this infectious hit fittingly: “Mount Everest ain’t got shit on me.”  And to that, I say, “WOOP!”
