Do you know what day it is? It is Wednesday, folks! Do you know what that means? Why, it is Wacky Wednesday! In the spirited column Wacky Wednesday, we analyze and explore unique, unusual, or wacky songs from different genres.  These songs can be new or old; the only requirement is that they ‘catch the ears’ because of their distinctiveness.  With the background established, in the 17th edition of Wacky Wednesday (2026), we break down the unique “Return to Pooh Corner”, performed by Kenny Loggins. Wacky Wednesday vibes commence!

“Christopher Robin and I walked along / Under branches lit up by the moon.”
So, is Kenny Loggins (b. 1948) referencing the Christopher Robin from Winnie the Pooh in his song “Return to Pooh Corner”? Why yes, he is! Loggins gets Owl and Eeyore into the action in the following line from the first verse. Perhaps the most memorable line: “But I’ve wandered much further today than I should / And I can’t seem to find my way back to the wood.” “Return to Pooh Corner” is the third track from his 1994 platinum-certified children’s music album of the same name. The song was written by Loggins. Loggins, Terry Nelson, and David Pack produced it.

“Return to Pooh Corner” begins with an enthusiastic guitar by Chris Rodriguez. Beyond the guitar and other standard pop/rock instrumentation (sans drums), the use of accordion (Brian Mann) adds vibrance. Kenny Loggins delivers sweet, innocent, and reminiscent vocals.  His tone is exceptional.  He brings the tuneful melodies to life superbly. He marvelously sings the thoughtful lyrics about childhood and much simpler times.  The third verse, the newest from a song originally written decades earlier, is incredibly personal: “After all was said and done, I just saw my son / He’s in bed with my bear by his side /… And I knew that my friends said, ‘Boy, welcome home’.”

Beyond Loggins’ lead vocals, background vocals from Amy Grant (b. 1960), Gary Chapman (b. 1957), and Steve George (b. 1955) provide a lift. The chorus is one of the most magical moments:

“So, help me if you can, I’ve got to get

Back to the house at Pooh Corner by one

You’d be surprised, there’s so much to be done

Count all the bees in the hive

Chase all the clouds from the sky (Chase the clouds away)

Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh.”

Other highlights include an alluring harmonic progression. Distinct chords always up the ante! The instrumental break between the second chorus and the third verse catches the ear.  In the third verse, the tempo slackens slightly, distinguishing it from the other verses. Another distinguishing moment is the final chorus which modulates unexpectedly.  All told, Kenny Loggins creates a striking children’s pop song with “Return to Pooh Corner”.  More than three decades after it was released, this gem still catches the ears.
