Hot 100 Jewels: Lorde and Her ‘Green Light’ Ascend to No. 19

Ed Sheeran remains the artist to beat on the Hot 100 as “Shape of You” remains no. 1.  Lorde sees comeback single “Green Light” ascend to no. 19. 

Okay, okay. If it weren’t obvious by the title, Ed Sheeran spends yet another week at no. 1 with “Shape of You.” Honestly, most of the top 10 is about the same, save for the rise of Clean Bandit (“Rockabye”).  The headline could’ve been about Clean Bandit, but the comeback of Lorde is too big to ignore. “Green Light” rises from no. 100 to no. 19, and that’s a big deal.  Beyond Sheeran, Clean Bandit, and Lorde, there are other compelling stories from the Billboard Hot 100, dated March 25, 2017.

1. Ed Sheeran. “The Shape of You.” No. 1. Book it. Numerous Sheeran singles impact the Billboard Hot 100, including “Perfect” (no. 37), “Castle on the Hill” (ascends no. 75 to no. 39), and “Dive” (no. 49).

2. Bruno Mars is on the hunt for a no. 1 single. “That’s What I Like” ascends from no. 4 to no. 3 this week. Still, Bruno must get past the Migos (“Bad and Boujee”) before putting some pressure on Ed.

3. Rihanna enters the top five with “Love On the Brain,” which rises from no. 6 to no. 5.

4. The Chainsmokers have NO top-five hits this week! Still, “Paris” remains firmly planted at no. 7 while “Closer” holds at no. 10. “Something Just Like This” slides from no. 5 to no. 11.

5. Clean Bandit, assisted by Sean Paul and Anne-Marie, sees “Rockabye” ascend from no. 24 to no. 9. Wow!

6. Sam Hunt has a hit on his hand with “Body Like a Back Road,” which rises from no. 20 to no. 17.

7. Lorde brings “Green Light” to no. 19 after debuting at no. 100 last week. What a jump!

8. There’s nothing “Cold” about the Maroon 5 single featuring Future. “Cold” ascends from no. 32 to no. 20 this week.

9. Future sees “Mask Off” pick up steam from no. 46 to no. 32.

10. After debuting at no. 28, Zedd and Alessia Cara sees “Stay” slip to no. 34.

11. Khalid earns his highest peak position on the Billboard Hot 100 yet. “Location” jumps from no. 51 to no. 38.

12. Imagine Dragons’ “Believer” is on the rise (no. 59 to no. 41).

13. Noah Cyrus and Labrinth breakthrough into the top-50. “Make Me (Cry)” rises from no. 56 to no. 46.

14. Talk about taking a “Slide,” that’s just what Calvin Harris, assisted by Frank Ocean and Migos, does. “Slide” dips from no. 34 to no. 52.

15. Childish Gambino sees “Redbone” get a lift to the tune of no. 83 to no. 69.
