“Hell froze in my bedroom / A phenomenon I came to / Half-believing I never met you before / That’s when you decide you want more.” Reading those lyrics is interesting enough.  However, Gracie Abrams remains a bit uninspiring, if you will, on “Here You Come, There You Go.” “Here You Come, There You Go” is the 17th track from Daughter from Hell (Deluxe). Abrams composed it with Amy Adams and producer Jim-E Stack.

“Here You Come, There You Go” features respectable production. There’s a solid rhythmic intro and alternative sound.  The harmonic progression is simple, but sufficient.  The melody is blasé during the first verse with plenty of repeated notes and stepwise motion. Perhaps this is why the excerpted lyrics don’t pop as much while listening… As for Gracie Abrams, she gives a ‘merely okay,’ non-game-changing vocal performance. Her falsetto stands out the most during the chorus:

“Now you’re wanting back in

Your big dramatic feelings

Funny how it happens when I’m good, when I’m so

Securely attached, I’m a double-knotted rope

Undo me like magic, here you come, there you go.”

Following the chorus, the best section, there is a brief post-chorus. Give the second verse more credit – it is a bit more interesting than the first.  Rhythmic synths and a slightly altered melody up the ante. Still, with a more dynamic vocalist or more energetic performance, the lyrics would stand out more (“Go, oh, you spit it out, say what you’re after / Bulldozing my life until it shatters”). The bridge could use more separation, as it sounds a bit too same-eee. Ultimately, “Here You Come, There You Go,” is more of the same from Gracie Abrams.  Perhaps there is more ‘experimentation’ (thanks to Jim-E Stack), but personally, this song doesn’t move the needle.  I still find her BORING.
