🎤 Getting to Know… The Lamb: Interview No. 224 [📷: The Lamb, Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype]On our 224th interview in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from Japanese band The Lamb.

“W

e sing in Japanese, but I’m sure you can understand the melody.” Of course, of course, 🎙 The Lamb!  The band serves as the interviewees on the 224th edition of our Getting to Know… series.  Wow – we’re cranking out those Q&As! Interestingly one of the goals of the band is simply, “not to break up.” Furthermore, they’re grateful to have signed with UK label and get interviews outside of Japan.  Right on, right on, right on.  So, without spoiling anymore of this interview, here is 🎤 Getting to Know… The Lamb: Interview No. 224!

Starting things off, for those who may not be familiar with The Lamb, what makes your band distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 Just the fact that we’re a Japanese band releasing music on a UK label is unique, right? Do you think we’re “samurai” or “ninjas”? We sing in Japanese, but I’m sure you can understand the melody. Sounds good, yeah?

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did The Lamb form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?

🎤 Well, you may think I’m boring, but to be honest, I’ve never wanted to be rich or famous. If I wanted to be rich, I would think of another way.  We’re not students anymore, we each have our own jobs, but we still play music. We love it. So, our goal is not to break up.

Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Maybe it’s to keep going. It’s very difficult to do that when there are five adults of a certain age. No one is forcing us to do anything, and if we can’t all get excited about something new all the time, our motivation will end. I’m always looking for that. For example, signing with a UK label, or getting interviews outside of Japan. It’s a great experience.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 The meaning of that is completely different between now and when I was a teenager. When I was a teenager, I was all about Eric Clapton. I tried to copy his hair and clothes. Now I think I’m more influenced by the sounds of this era. I hope that what we create will always be part of the conversation of its era. We don’t want to be nostalgic. That’s why I react to the slightest commercial or the radio that happens to come on. “How the hell do they make this sound?” I think.

Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.

🎤 Funny thing…Junpei (bass) is always funny, but I can’t pick just one… When we shot the music video for our song 🎵 “Tokyo”, he was attacked by a swan in the park! Then he fell into a swamp. Another day, when we made a short commercial for 🎵 “Atlantis”,  we had a scene where everyone paraded around the city in a cool way. But he slipped like a ballerina, but no one noticed it until after the editing was done, and then it went public. We even put ads all over the world.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 There’s a song called 🎵 “Rainy Friday in June,” which is not released and is only played live. It’s usually the last number of the show, and there’s a guitar solo at the end, which gets the band’s improvisation going. When I play it, I always feel like I’m losing track of time. It’s like we’ve been playing for hours when it’s actually only a few minutes. It’s not that I’m uncomfortable, you know? It’s weird and fun.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 I’ll be honest… I’m a samurai. I really am.  And I can make the most delicious pasta in the world.

Closing things out, what is The Lamb currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 Can you keep a secret? We’re trying to create a secret society in England. It will eventually spread throughout the UK. By this time next year, I think you’ll all be samurais making pasta. Would you like to join us?

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
