Getting to Know… Death in Paradise: Interview No. 223 🎤 [📷: Death in Paradise, Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype]On our 223rd interview, we get the inside scoop – and colorful responses – from Death in Paradise, a band comprised of members from multiple countries.

“I

think our accents together are quite unique though… you should hear us have a conversation together… it’s a trip.” Hmm 🤔, some context needed 🎙 Death in Paradise!!! 🎙 Joel Beazer, provides that context (and answers all of our burning questions): “We are a band [with] members …  from different countries … from similar backgrounds … to rock.” Right on, right on 🤘! One of the goals the band mentions in our 223rd Q&A is to “Getting a good record deal so we cannot work shitty jobs or be called garbage anymore by well-off ex-girlfriends… tour and get some bread.” Colorful and honest answers – authenticity to the nth degree.  They go on to say that “although we still have shitty jobs… at least we are finally getting there.” Want more of this epic interview? Well, we won’t spoil anymore of 🎤 Getting to Know… Death in Paradise: Interview No. 223.  Check it out for yourself 🔽!!!

Starting things off, for those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Death in Paradise distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 I would say that we are a band [with] members who are from different countries that came together from similar backgrounds and a main focus to do just that….to rock…  All the travelling and sacrifice that we’ve made won’t be [make] any sense if we just do it half-assed…you dig? I think our accents together are quite unique though…you should hear us have a conversation together…it’s a trip.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Death in Paradise form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

🎤 When I first came to Europe, I had a lot of songs written and was looking for a studio to record this album that was playing in my head… It was halfway finished after playing shows with hired musicians in and around London and Wales, I was going by the name “Joel Beazer and The Fast Lane”. I moved for a little while to Portugal to record. It took me awhile to finally get drummer, 🎙 Anton Aatamila, who had just also arrived playing a tour in Tokyo. We both decided to meet up. He loved the style and songs, and we clicked amazingly. Our goal has always been to stick together and take this as far as it can go, like, getting a good record deal so we cannot work shitty jobs or be called garbage anymore by well-off ex-girlfriends who never believed, and tour and get some bread.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Oh, it’s definitely gotten better, although we still have ‘shitty jobs’ and possibly still called ‘garbage,’ but at least we are finally getting out there. We still believe in our songs and the band! That never changes.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 I still tear up listening to Bob Dylan’s words. I also love going back to the old Delta and Mississippi blues – Lightnin’ Hopkins, Muddy Waters… But then, there are days where I feel like GNR, A Perfect Circle, [and] Deftones are right here understanding my days and nights. Altogether, it can change daily. Anton has a wide range of Drum influences, particularly, David Abbruzzese (Pearl Jam), Lamb of God… stuff like that.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

🎤 I did a bunch of blow before a performance way back when, that I got so much cotton mouth and paranoia, I thought everyone were cops in the crowd, yep never doing that again… Stuff like Anton breaking sticks or snares and having to work with that. I once had really long dreadlocks that they somehow got stuck over and under my guitar strings while I was performing… I mean, wha? How? Over, under and over the strings again?

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 Both Anton and I agrees that the song 🎵 “Metropolis” from the upcoming album, 💿 Sacrificing the Goat, is our favorite. It’s one of the first ones our energies really clicked, and we knew we had something going.  I will add our single, 🎵 “Closer,” to that list – it’s our first single released!

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 I can light a cigarette with a lighter between my toes….

Closing things out, what is Death in Paradis currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

It’s been great working with The Animal Farm Label, and releasing the first single 🎵 “Closer”, and we are looking to relocate to the UK now, release the album 💿 Sacrificing the Goat and go on the road!

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.

🎤 Thank you very much! rock n roll forever.
