nnuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom.  Many of the records featured here raise eyebrows, as well as the temperature! These After Dark tunes focus on the universal three-letter word:  SEX. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome.  In the 50th edition of After Dark (2022), we explore the naughty, risqué, & sexual vibes behind, 🎵 “Calling My Name” by 🎙 Drake.

Theme & Lyrics

showing off a legI think it’s fair to say that 🎙 Drake is in a much different spot in his current career compared to his early career.  Personally, I found Drizzy to be more consistent and engaging back in the day.  While he’s still able to drop hits, I’ve also found his music to be predictable and mediocre.  Give him credit for attempting to get out of the box on his surprise 2022 album, 💿 Honestly, Nevermind, which essentially ditches rap for house music.  Is it flawed? Many folks seem to think so, though some praise it, giving it more credit beyond an attempted about-face.  The song that earns the label of After Dark 🕛 🌃 sugar honey iced tea is 🎵 “Calling My Name”.

holy f ing molyDrake, who always seems to enjoy sex, brings sex to the table on “Calling My Name.” Early on, Drizzy is yearning for her, or maybe, ‘it’ (more on that later).  “I’m coutin’ the days ‘til you come,” he sings, continuing, “I’m countin’ the ways to make you…” Yeah, finish that statement, and likely the word begins with a C.  He goes on to say, “You’re my water, my refresher / Take off your clothes, relieve pressure.” Hmm, sounds like S-E-X to me! “ I need your touch when I’m with her / My heart, it beats different rhythm…” Hmm, now that’s a bit of an eyebrow-raising lyric – the first part of course.  While all of those lyrics are worth mentioning or rolling your eyes about, the lyrics everyone CAME here for are post-beat switch:

“Your pussy is calling my name

So, come on, baby, let’s stop playing games

Your pussy is calling my name

So, come on, baby, let’s stop playing games.”

No explanation is needed, I guess, but I have questions, Drake!

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji ImageSo, 🎵 “Calling My Name” is, um, something.  Basically, Drake continues to be horny, as he’s been for a long, long time.  Let’s face it, the man is thirsty, and he just comes right out and says what he desires.  At least the beat switch is rad.  But the fact that he sings, “Your pussy is calling my name” – Drake! Drake!
