Ah, five-time Grammy-nominated R&B singer Candi Staton (b. 1940) is in pursuit of him on Nights on Broadway!  She can’t leave that man alone! “Nights on Broadway” is the opener from Staton’s 1977 album, Music Speaks Louder Than Words.  A cover, it was originally released by the Bee Gees in 1975.  Hence, Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb, and Robin Gibb wrote it, while Bob Monaco produced it.  Though Staton’s rendition missed the pop charts, it peaked at number 16 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs

Staton commanding, singing atop the dynamic musical backdrop like a champ.  Adding to the allure, she’s supported by background vocalists who up the ante with their own energy and skill.  The section to beat is the chorus:

“Blaming it all on the nights on Broadway
Singin’ them love songs
Singin’ them straight to the heart songs
Blamin’ it all on the nights on Broadway
Singin’ them sweet sounds
To that crazy, crazy town.”

No deep analysis or commentary is necessary for this one, folks.  Candi Staton made Nights on Broadway, a hit song by the Bee Gees, her own.  Her version stands tall thanks to dynamic vocals and an exceptional arrangement and production.
