Ariana Grande Holds Down No. 1 | Scanning the Charts 📉

Scanning the Charts – Billboard 200 & Billboard Hot 100 (11/21/20): Ariana Grande holds serve at no. 1 with Positions. 

SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye.  To reiterate what I said last week (Ariana Grande Lands Fifth No. 1 Album), this column won’t be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that 💩 moving. 

This week, I picked out SIX notable observations 🔎 from the Billboard 200, and FOUR observations 🔎 from the Billboard Hot 100, with 🎙 Ariana Grande holding down the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, 💿 Positions.

Billboard 200

💭 🎙 Ariana Grande remains ↔ no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 💿 Positions, moving an additional 83,000 units per Billboard.

 

💭 🎙 The Kid LAROI gets a big boost following the release of the deluxe edition of his debut mixtape, 💿 F*CK LOVE (SAVAGE).  It reaches a new peak on the Billboard 200 (⬆ from no. 81 to no. 3).

 

💭 Rapper 🎙 King Von, who was shot and killed on Friday, November 6 sees 💿 Welcome to O’Block ascend ⬆ from no. 13 (where it debuted) to no. 5.  Also, worth noting, his projects, 💿 Levon James and 💿 Grandson, Vol. 1 reenter the chart at nos. 40 and 53 respectively.

💭 🎙 NAV earns the highest debut in the top 10.  💿 Emergency Tsunami launches at no. 6.

💭 So, how did some of the second charting weeks go for acts that debuted on the Billboard 200 dated 11/14/20 besides Ariana Grande and King Von? 🎙 Trippie Redd sees 💿 Pegasus ⬇ from no. 2 to no. 14. 🎙 Sam Smith sees a similar 12-spot ⬇ for 💿 Love Goes (no. 5 to no. 17). 🎙 Queen Naija’s 💿 Missunderstood nosedives from no. 9 to no. 40 (⬇ 31 spots). 🎙 Busta Rhymes sees his comeback album, 💿 ELE 2: The Wrath of God, fall from no. 7 to no. 55 (⬇ 48 spots).

 

💭 There were some newbies who didn’t get the same ‘fame’ as NAV, who earned the only top-10 debut this week.  Second in line was K-pop collective 🎙 TOMORROW X TOGETHER with 💿 Minisode1: Blue Hour (EP), which launched at no. 25. 🎙 Kylie Minogue brought 💿 Disco to the charts at no. 25. 🎙 Kodak Black makes a lackluster return with 💿 Bill Israel at no. 52.  The same can be said of 🎙 Lil Mix and a tepid start at no. 85 with 💿 Confetti or 🎙 NLE Choppa’s 💿 From Dark to Light quiet start at no. 115.  Not much to celebrate there!

Billboard Hot 100 

💭 🎙 After returning to no. 1 last week, 🎙 24kGoldn and 🎙 Iann Dior hold serve ↔ with 🎵 “Mood.”  Per Billboard, “Mood” became the most-streamed song for the first time.

 

💭 After slipping to no. 2 on the Hot 100 last week, 🎙 Ariana Grande, like 24kGoldn and Iann Dior, is also a non-mover ↔ with 🎵 “Positions”.

💭 🎙 Gabby Barrett has been steadily climbing up the Hot 100 with 🎵 “I Hope,” featuring Charlie Puth.  It ascends ⬆ two spots from no. 5 to no. 3, a whopping 46 weeks in.

💭 🎙 Maluma has a hit on his hands! Thanks to a remix with 🎙 The Weeknd, 🎵 “Hawái” ascends ⬆ from no. 60 to no. 12.
