In the 93rd edition of Beaming with Pride (2026), we highlight “brokiii,” performed by Al Calderon.
Are you ready to beam with P-R-I-D-E? Beaming with Pride highlights songs by LGBTQ musicians and allies, offering background, analysis, and discussion of the decadent bops served up. All music genres are welcome. Songs, old and new, are welcome as well. So, without further ado, in the 93rd edition of Beaming with Pride (2026), we highlight “brokiii” performed by Al Calderon.
“I know / You wouldn’t admit it / Trying to find a piece of me in someone else.” Early on in “brokiii,” talented singer, songwriter, actor, and certified hunk Al Calderon (Alberto Calderon) dives into past love. ‘Matters of the heart’ always make for a captivating song. “Brokiii” is no exception. A Broki is Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 slang for friend. The song also deals with being broken. Brokiii is the Māori word for broken. Calderon composed “brokiii” alongside producer Joseph Tilley.
“Brokiii” features colorful production from the get-go. Those detuned synths stand out early. Other striking sounds include guitar, keys, drum programming, and the bass. As for the star, Al Calderon serves up smooth, buttery vocals. Listening to him sing is like sex on the track. Looking at him = also a treat (Sorry, couldn’t resist)! Calderon laments being brokiii (broken) by this man. “You broke me first,” he asserts, and adds, “Turned our something to nothing.” Like many of his songs, Calderon gives us Spanglish lyrics. This is where the broki comes into play.

A friend instead of a lover? No ma’am! We don’t rejoice in Al Calderon’s pain, but, he does deliver another enjoyable pop joint with “brokiii.” Plus, there’s a visual, phew 😮💨. The shirt remains on, sadly, but considering it’s a sleeveless vest, Al shows off his guns 💪!
