Former One Direction member and urban-pop standout ZAYN continues sings about sex on single “Let Me,” but does so with more class, maturity, and tastefulness.
“Sweet baby, our sex has meaning.” Ooh la-la ZAYN. It’s certainly not shocking that the urban-pop star addresses the physical on his first single of 2018, “Let Me.” “Pillowtalk” thrived off of the former 1D member’s bedroom adventures. While “Let Me” also makes reference to the act, it’s less explicit, smoother, and much more tasteful.
Beyond the opening acknowledgement of meaningful sex, “Let Me” thrives off its classiness. The backdrop is smooth, urban-pop at its best. It’s incredibly uncluttered – there’s ample space for the production to ‘breathe’ you might say. ZAYN delivers some superb vocals, particularly when he sings in falsetto. Calling his vocals ‘buttery smooth’ wouldn’t be an overstatement. Further amplifying the excellence of “Let Me” are the lovely vocal harmonies on the chorus. Throw in rhythmic guitars, and “Let Me” is contemporary, yet hearkens back to the past. Also, lyrically, the pre-chorus and chorus seems less focused on the physical aspects of the relationship and more on the total package.
“Baby, let me be your man (let me be your man)
So, I can love you (I can love you)
And if you let me be your man (let me be your man)
Then I’ll take care of you (I can love you)
For the rest of my life, for the rest of yours.”
Final Thoughts
Maturity is the big takeaway from “Let Me.” Yes, ZAYN is still singing about ‘doing it,’ but he’s much more romantic and refined about it on “Let Me.” Pop music isn’t revolutionized by this record, but it seems like ZAYN is on the right track for his highly-anticipated sophomore album.
