Yeat, ON NOTHING | Song Review

Yeat disses Travis Scott diss on his brief, energetic single, “ON NOTHING.” The results are a mixed bag. 

Yeat (Noah Smith) excels at delivering vibes. Does he excel at making surefire bangers? Well, sometimes, but it’s not automatic. He at least brings energy to his single, “ON NOTHING,” a track that disses Grammy-nominated rapper Travis Scott. “I don’t fuck with Flame,” he asserts in the verse, and adds, “Not a lot to say, if I saw a candle, I’d shush it.” Oh, snap! Yeat composed “ON NOTHING” with producers Luc1us and CXSKET.

“ON NOTHING” doesn’t deliver anything brand-new, game-changing, or innovative, but it does have its pros. The malicious-sounding production, set in a minor key, slaps. Also, Yeat’s cadence and flow are intriguing. His performance is melodic (autotune) and rhythmic. Are vibes established? Yes! Does Yeat say much on “ON NOTHING,” however? Nah. The Travis Scott references are entertaining enough… they’re cute. But, ultimately, this brief record is a mixed bag.
