DJ Casper, Cha Cha Slide | 1 Hit WONDERful

Possibly, artists who appear have earned a minor hit or two, BUT for the most part, that ONE hit earned them recognition. So, in the 37^th edition of 1 Hit WONDERful (2026), we dive into “Cha Cha Slide”, the one-hit wonder by DJ Casper.

Ooh-wee! If that doesn’t gas you up, something is wrong! Mr. C the Slide Man, aka DJ Casper (William Perry Jr., 1965 – 2023), scored a hit for all time. “Cha Cha Slide” is one-of-one – a dance ingrained into pop culture years after it impacted the pop charts. Was it a top 40 hit? Nope. Its peak at number 83 on the Billboard Hot 100 is incredibly modest.  But when this dance comes on at any event or party, people lock in and know what to do!

There are several mixes of “Cha Cha Slide.” The radio edit runs under four minutes.  The ‘Original Live Platinum Band Mix’ runs nearly six-and-a-half minutes. All of them feature an inescapable, danceable groove and specific directions, including clapping hands. DJ Casper infuses plenty of personality as he instructs: “One hop this time / Right foot, let’s stomp / Left foot, let’s stomp / Cha cha real smooth / Turn it out.” Woo! Other instructions include  “Slide to the left / Slide to the right / Criss cross…” Sometimes, there are multiple hops, reverses, and ample opportunities to “Get funky with it.” Adding to the exciting after right and left foot stomps include “FREEZE! / Everybody clap your hands.” Best experienced by dancing along, “Cha Cha Slide” is as timeless as dance songs come. This one-hit wonder never grows old!
