Are you ready to beam with P-R-I-D-E? Beaming with Pride highlights songs by LGBTQ musicians and allies, offering background, analysis, and discussion of the decadent bops served up. All music genres are welcome. Songs, old and new, are welcome as well. So, without further ado, in the 88th edition of Beaming with Pride (2026), we highlight “surrender” by WRABEL.

“To you I surrender.”
Noted, WRABEL (Stephen Wrabel). The openly gay pop singer-songwriter delivered a sweet, mesmerizing single with “surrender.” “Surrender” is the 10th track on his third studio album, up up above, released in 2026.  WRABEL composed and produced it with Austin Ward.

It has a clearly defined form, but it’s still enigmatic, hypnotic, and somewhat nebulous.  This effect is sweet, all told. WRABEL’s vocals are chill and relaxed. Much like the rhythmic, smooth backdrop that accompanies him, he doesn’t sound like he ‘breaks a sweat.’  The lyrics are spare, yet WRABEL makes every note sound significant. “Head spin / I dive into the blue,” he sings in the first verse, and continues, “My skin / A dotted line for you / I bend to the point of breaking.”  The chorus is simple, yet ‘telling,’ if you will. By the second verse, you follow WRABEL’s direction more.  The lyrics remain poetic, if not more so than the first: “Light flicker / I’m crawling up the walls / …I bend to the point of breaking.” All told, WRABEL brings the heat to the incredibly cool “surrender.” Great vocals, poetic songwriting, and sublime production make this a marvelous pop bop.
