1. Artemas, “control yourself”

getting up to no good » Artemas » 2026

Artemas, getting up to no good [📷: Artemas]

“Caroline / Do you like when I say your name?”
Artemas (Artemas Diamandis) seems to be referencing the song “Caroline” from his 2024 mixtape, yustyna.  In that song, Mr. Diamandis asserts, “Caroline, you should break up with your girl / For the night, let me fucking rock your world.” On “control yourself”, the 12th and final track from his 2026 tape, getting up to no good, Caroline seems to be enticing Artemas, ferociously.  “You know what you’re doing with that tight dress on / Pressed against your body with no panties on,” he sings in the pre-chorus, and continues, “Started breathing on me, and it felt so wrong / Started touching on me, and it felt so wrong.” Holy fuck feels like an appropriate reaction… Anyway, Artemas wrote and produced this naughty pop cut.

“Control yourself” commences enigmatically.  The sound is brighter than usual… or at least, less dark for an Artemas song.  Still, Diamandis gets it in, as evidenced by the pre-chorus.  Even thinking with his pants, Artemas sings beautifully, enthusiastically, infuses plenty of personality, and packs more punch than usual.  Also, the musical accompaniment is vibrant.  Still, it is his sexual endeavors that capture our attention most.  In the second verse, he admits he “broke my girl’s heart for a taste.”  Making matters worse, his girlfriend doesn’t know it… I guess until she hears the song 😏.  But Diamandis can’t avoid her and yield not to temptation!  Instead, per the pre-chorus, “Baby, when I’m with you, can’t control myself / If I don’t get to fuck you, won’t forgive myself.” In the chorus, the centerpiece, Artemas, continues to be honest about his horniness.  Seems like Caroline is a baddie!

“But I don’t even know you, girl, control yourself

I’m tryin’ not to give in, but I know myself

I know I shouldn’t trust you, but I want to

Yeah, I want to, and I want you.”

Artemas should’ve avoided Caroline like the plague.  In terms of the song “control yourself”, however, it’s hard not to eat up the sexy sugar, honey, iced tea he continues to serve up.

2. Bleachers, “the van”

everyone for ten minutes » Dirty Hit » 2026

Bleachers, everyone for ten minutes [📷: Dirty Hit]

“I just don’t wanna be lonely, I just don’t wanna be / That’s the thing about loving your shadow.”
Don’t forget the beginning portion of that lyric – it recurs throughout “the van”. “The van” is the third single and second track from Bleachers’ fifth studio album, everyone for ten minutes. Antonoff wrote the song with Bobby Eli, Mikey Freedom Hart, John Freeman, and Vinnie Barrett.  There are a couple more writers than usual for good reason…

“The van” is striking from the jump.  During the intro, the listener is introduced to pummeling drums and nostalgic, soulful music cues. Beyond the stellar instrumental moments, Jack’s sung “ba-ba-ba-ba(s)” are a vibe in their own right. Those instrumental and vocal cues arrive courtesy of the sampled soul classic, “Just Don’t Want to Be Lonely” by Blue Magic, written by Barrett and Eli).  Antonoff delivers an intriguing vocal performance.  Sometimes he sings, and at other times, he talks-sings rhythmically.  It is an interesting cadence and flow.  In this memory song, Jack remembers his early days in the 2000s, playing in bands in the first verse. Memorably, he gives us a fun fact: “All Jersey kids, we never learn to pump gas.” It’s true – there is a self-service gas ban in New Jersey. In the second verse, he continues reflectively.  “I think some of us need to chip away what we don’t understand,” he sings, and adds, “So we drove back from the west with our new religion/ One-way tickets in heart and in hand / Said fuck anything in my way, this is forever now / And just like that, everything changed.” Fuck yeah, Jack! In the first chorus, he references the van twice, most notably, “Glory to the ones who know the van, oh, oh, oh / Glory to the ones on the edge / I just don’t wanna be lonely, I just don’t wanna be.”  The second iteration of the chorus features slightly different lyrics and references his wife, actress Margaret Qualley.  All told, “the van” marks another engaging, unique record from Bleachers.  The production, sound, theme, lyrics, and Antonoff’s distinct vocal performance make this joint stand out.

3. BTS, “SWIM”

ARIRANG » BIGHIT MUSIC » 2026

BTS, ARIRANG [📷: BIGHIT MUSIC]

“Swim, swim / I could spend a lifetime watching you.”
Aww 🥰! Grammy-nominated K-pop standouts BTS returned with a bang, better yet, a banger with “SWIM”. Simply put, the seventh track from their fifth album, ARIRANG, kicks ass and takes names.  “SWIM” earned BTS their seventh number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100.  That’s impressive!  There are lots of cooks in the kitchen who made “SWIM” possible.  It was written by James Essien, Sean Foreman, Tyler Spry, Jamison Baken, Ryan Tedder, RM, Kirsten Spencer, Derrick Milano, and Pdogg. Ooh-wee! Tyler Spry and Leclair produced it.

An arresting, hazy detuned synth sets the tone on “SWIM.” Following the instrumental introduction, Jung Kook and Jimin beautifully sing the chorus against a vibrant backdrop.  The chorus is simple but catchy and incredibly tuneful.

“Swim, swim

Water falling off your skin

Swim, swim

I could spend a lifetime watching you

Swim, swim

This is how it all begins

Swim, swim

I just wanna dive, I just wanna dive.”

Following the percussion-less chorus, a killer beat provides a mighty anchor, stabilizing the aquatic experience. RM performs the first verse, delivering rhythmic, ear-catching melodies and swagger-laden lyrics. “Lookin’ like a goody, goody in this bad world, bad world / Don’t know how to act, girl,” he sings, and adds, “I’m in the deep, tell me, where the hell you at, girl?”  Jung Kook returns, dropping the pre-chorus, where he, “Ain’t gotta think ‘bout a thing, baby, I just…” Wait for it… SWIM! Jimin and V follow with the second chorus, which they split.  SUGA enters the mix in the second verse, matching the swagger of RM.  “I can feel the high waves comin’ (Yeah) / Why you run away? You can run in (Yeah),” he sings, and continues, “Salt on my tongue, she’s stunnin’ (Yeah) / You’re the only place that I wanna be, yeah.” J-hope brings the splash on the third and final verse: “Turn my face from the land / I just wanna dive, I just wanna dive.” V and Jin bring it on home in the final chorus.  All told, BTS ate and left no crumbs on “SWIM”. The boys give great performances, with awesome music to back them up. It’s not surprising the single topped the pop charts – it’s a surefire K-pop banger!

4. Charlie Puth & Coco Jones, “Sideways”

Whatever’s Clever! » Atlantic Records Group LLC » 2026

“Even if it goes sideways / Even if we scream out enough’s enough / I believe that we’ll always find a way to weather the storm.”
Oh, the dedication is turned up to the nth degree! The fight for love, through even the most turbulent storm, is legit! Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, producer Charlie Puth collaborates with Grammy-winning R&B singer-songwriter Coco Jones (Courtney Jones) on “Sideways”.  The result is a dazzling duet for the ages! “Sideways” is the ninth track on Puth’s fourth studio album, Whatever’s Clever!.  Puth co-wrote the song with Jones and BloodPop®. Puth and BloodPop® produced it, with orchestration courtesy of Brad Ritchie.  Yep, you guessed it, strings are upping the ante!

There is nothing sideways about “Sideways,” which proves to be one of Puth’s best songs to date. The soulful music cues set the tone from the get-go, establishing this as an R&B/soul-pop joint. Charlie Puth draws first blood, performing the first verse. His tone is refined, and he never gets too high or over-sings during his performance.  “Maybe we took a wrong turn / Yeah, we just had to let it burn,” he sings, and adds, “You didn’t need to slam the door, oh.” Following the verse, Puth sings the pre-chorus (“This love means way too much /…For us to give it up”) and chorus, excerpted earlier. Coco Jones takes the reins during the second verse. She matches the sophisticated vocal performance of Puth. “The gravity is drowning me,” she sings, and concludes, “And I’m making up all these tragedies / Clarity comes to me, tellin’ me to slow down.” Jones performs the pre-chorus, with contributions from Puth, showcasing some of the first great duetting moments. Likewise, they collaborate during the second chorus, with both vocalists digging in more. There are some awesome vocal ad-libs and riffs. The interlude that follows is sweet, with epic non-lyrical singing from Puth and Jones.  Their final chorus is also top-notch, with the duo delivering incredible synergy.  The outro finds both flexing their R&B vocal muscles. Ultimately, Charlie Puth and Coco Jones make a formidable duo on “Sideways”.  Both deliver high-flying vocals separately and collectively.  This marks another enjoyable moment from the ambitious, diversely assembled Whatever’s Clever!.

5. Cody Simpson, “Baby Blue”

Cody Simpson, Baby Blue / When It Comes To Loving You [📷: Range Music / BMG Rights Management (US)]

“Keep on dancing with me, baby blue.”
If only I had blue eyes, Cody Simpson, sigh. The Australian pop singer-songwriter returned in March 2026, after six years, with two new songs, including “Baby Blue”. He composed the sunny, romantic pop record with Bailey Bryan and producer Harrison Borts. Baby Blue, whoever she is, is incredibly special to Cody. “Baby Blue” is a vibe from the beginning.  Set in a major key, the musical accompaniment and production are vibrant.  The warm sounds accompanying our blonde pop artist include keys, guitar, horns, and pummeling drums that hit you in the chest. BOOM! The secret weapon, however, is not-so-secret: Mr. Cody Simpson, ladies and gentlemen! Simpson sounds far more commanding and mature than in his teen-pop days.  His vocals are fresh, ripe, and youthful at 29 years old.  He sings with incredible exuberance, bringing the tuneful melodies and memorable lyrics to life like a champ. In the first verse, he acknowledges how special she is: “I said, ‘Come on with me, baby, ‘cause you might be the one.’” In the chorus, the crème de la crème, he characterizes Baby Blue as “The Bobby to your Whitney,” and encourages her to “Keep on dancing with me.” Simpson keeps things romantic in the second verse, asserting, “Juliet, you stepped into my summer night’s dream,” and is surprised that “you were a disco queen.” On the bridge, he informs her, “You’re the chance I would take.” Aww! All in all, Simpson makes a fabulous return to music with “Baby Blue”. His voice sounds great, while this song feels perfectly suited to him.

6. Cole Redding, “Shot In The Dark”

“Shot In The Dark” » Cole Redding » 2026

Cole Redding, Shot In The Dark [📷: Cole Redding]

“All of my life / Was just killing time / Waiting for lightning to strike.”
Bummer! Say it isn’t so, Cole Redding?!  Per his single, “Shot In The Dark”, “Now you / You got me running / To the beat of your heart.” Ooh-wee! Redding composed “Shot In The Dark” with Stephen Santa Teresa and Zoe Giosa-Hirsch.  Santa Teresa produced it.  There is a lot to like about this two-and-a-half-minute song.

“Shot In The Dark” features bright, exuberant production. Set in a major key, the musical accompaniment is sweet and suits Cole Redding superbly. Our singer is the star of the show. He sings beautifully and effortlessly, never forcing things.  Cole brings the tuneful melodies and thoughtful lyrics to life like a champ. He opens with a banger: “The moonlight / Is hotter than the heat of the sun.” Later, finding this high-flying fella, “My sheets are covered / In your cologne / For once I feel like I’m not alone.” Yeah, I jelly! The crème de la crème, unsurprisingly, is the chorus (excerpted earlier), where the titular phrase can be found:

“Now you

You got me running

To the beat of your heart

And I

Ain’t scared of falling

But I’m falling apart

I can see it coming

It don’t matter how far

We could hit forever

With a shot, shot, shot in the dark.”

There is a post-chorus/bridge that emphasizes that shot in the dark, before the concluding chorus. All told, “Shot In The Dark” is another highlight from Redding.  It checks off the right boxes: strong vocals, memorable theme and lyrics, tuneful melodies, and vibrant production.

7. Conan Gray, “The Best”

Wishbone (deluxe) » Republic » 2026

Conan Gray, Wishbone (Deluxe) [📷: Republic]

“I’d take back the shit that I said / When I was so pissed that you left.”
The matters of the heart are matters of hearting for Conan Gray on “The Best”. The emotional “The Best” appears on the deluxe edition of his album, Wishbone. Gray composed “Best” with producer Jon Buscema. As usual, the handsome and talented pop singer-songwriter eats and leaves no crumbs.

“The Best” commences enigmatically, before settling into guitar-accompanied pop/rock. Conan Gray shines, delivering refined vocals where he sings calmly and tenderly. His falsetto sounds incredibly ripe. The lyrics are memorable and at times, quite poetic. “Arms in your sweatshirt, primrose at night,” Gray sings in the first verse, and continues, “Mint chocolate ice cream, your hazel eyes.” In the pre-chorus, he questions the validity of their relationship. This leads to the chorus, which is bigger than the verses. I love the rhythmic melody.

“Maybe it’s all in my mind

But swear if I saw you tonight

We could make peace with it, not have to sleep with it

Haunting me all of the time

I’d take back the shit that I said

When I was so pissed that you left

I could make peace with it, finally sleep with it

Finally, wish you the best.”

Gray brings things back down – more even keel – during the rhythmic second verse. He remembers their relationship and how vastly things have changed (“Nothing like it once was, when I was yours”). The bridge section is big, with Gray singing in his upper register, continuing to capture the emotional dynamics. All in all, “The Best” marks another enjoyable, well-rounded song from Conan Gray. It is well-written, well-performed, and well-produced.

8. Durand Bernarr & James Fauntleroy, “Wild Ride”

“Wild Ride” » Durand Bernarr / DSING RECORDS / Create Music Group Inc. » 2026

Durand Bernarr & James Fauntleroy, Wild Ride [📷: Durand Bernarr / DSING RECORDS / Create Music Group Inc.]

“Tighter than a seatbelt, that’s why.”
Hmm… Okay, Durand Bernarr. Please, tell us more.  “Wouldn’t let no one else take over you driving / I’m riding.” Oh… Durand, are you talking about S Meets E, and then they X? The innuendo is ripe AF in the first verse from “Wild Ride” credited to the Grammy winner and James Fauntleroy. Bernarr and Fauntleroy wrote the intriguing track while Fauntleroy produced it.

A brief but notable instrumental introduction sets the tone on “Wild Ride.” The sounds are the sugar, honey, iced tea, thanks to a banging, syncopated, souped-up beat, vibrant keyboards, and striking synths. Durand Bernarr puts his foot into his performance.  He delivers refined, sophisticated, and expressive vocals. His tone is everything. I adore the fullness of his lower register. That said, his upper register and falsetto are ripe as well.  He also drops some sickening vocal ad-libs and runs.  What I’m saying is, Durand delivers a complete performance.  “Niggas be / They tripping with me too much,” he sings in the second verse, and adds, “Fuck would you rather be? /… in love? / If that’s what you want / Stop bullshitting, pull up.” Word.  The chorus, expectedly, is a big deal:

“And you can have the control, don’t rush

You can go slow, slow

And I don’t care where we go

Don’t even need to know, woah, just go, oh.”

Durand is going wherever his man is, PERIOD! Notably, the bridge distinguishes itself from the verses and choruses.  It goes percussion-less, which contrasts with most of the song. L-O-V-E is in the air: “Huh, your hand in mine, into the light / That’s the kind of wild ride I like.” The outro (“Let’s stop chasing, let’s get active…”) allows the instrumental to shine alongside silky-smooth background vocals. It is a vibe in its own right. Durand Bernarr and James Fauntleroy bring the heat and deliver the goods on “Wild Ride”, which is more like an exhilarating ride.

9. ETHAN, “Everything u need”

 “Everything u need” » ETHAN » 2026

ETHAN, Everything u need [📷: ETHAN]

“Too tired to fight / Hell is you and I, hell is you and I…”
Well, now, ETHAN (Ethan Choryin Luo)… Dude, I thought we had something special?! I thought we were tight, my guy! I’ll forgive that handsome face, toned body, and most of all, those talented pipes, particularly hearing the enjoyable, though heartbroken, regretful single, “Everything u need”.  Yes, ETHAN messed up, but he knows that he is everything this nameless boy needs. ETHAN composed “Everything u need” with producer KLIPO.

“Everything u need” is a vibe from the get-go. The ears perk up thanks to the cool but potent synths and an electrifying groove.  The ears perk up even more thanks to ETHAN’s calm, cool, and collected vocals.  Although his performance is electrifying, he does not sound like he breaks a sweat. I love the legato nature of the melody throughout the first verse (excerpted earlier), pre-chorus, and chorus.  In the pre-chorus, ETHAN asks, “How are you still here?” and adds that he “Promised I’d change, but you know I can’t.” Damn, E! The chorus is quite tuneful and features memorable lyrics:

“I know I’ll never be good for you, babe

Hurt you so bad, but I’m everything you need, thing you need

I know you’ll never be the one to walk away

Hurt you so bad, but I’m everything you need, thing you need.”

Noted, ETHAN. The second verse is far more rhythmic compared to the first.  He admits his wrongs, but also acknowledges his ex’s flaws, too. In the second pre-chorus, he states, “I wish you could stop being so hard on me / But God knows I haven’t made it easy.” At least he’s self-aware.  Following the chorus, ETHAN drops the outro, confirming everything, of course! All in all, “Everything u need” is another winner from the handsome and remarkably talented singer-songwriter from New Zealand.

10. Isaia Huron, “this girl wants everything”

Mr. Lovebomb » RCA Records / SLANG / ITOLA LLC » 2026

Isaia Huron, Mr. Lovebomb [📷: RCA Records / SLANG / ITOLA LLC]

“Could’ve sworn I showed you love so crazy / But that’s not enough for my baby.”
According to R&B singer-songwriter Isaia Huron, “this girl wants everything”.  He concludes the first verse, singing, “They say love don’t cost a thing, but it cost me everything / So I stand on what I say, yeah.” Word. “This girl wants everything” is the third track from Huron’s sophomore album, Mr. Lovebomb.  Huron wrote and produced the song.

“This girl wants everything” features a soulful, sophisticated, grown-and-sexy musical accompaniment.  The sounds are lush and hearken back to the R&B of old, with some jazz music cues as well.  The harmonic progression is more varied than some of the R&B you hear in the 2020s as well.  The musicianship is on point.  That includes the vocals of Isaia Huron, who has a beautiful tone and marvelously brings the melodies and lyrics to life.  Speaking of the lyrics, that is the one element of “This girl wants everything” that is not particularly old-school. Huron is fine with dropping the n-word throughout the second verse (“Niggas get the chills when you walk by / And you handle ‘em all with ease, yeah, uh,” and “But always knew exactly how to get what you want from a nigga, don’t you?”). He makes his point loud and clear, as this girl knows how to work her magic, if that’s the right word.  The moment to beat is the chorus, which sums up this girl’s power over him:

“This girl wants everything

Not a little, but everything

She depend on me for everything, oh

This one wants everything

Like a wedding ring, and for me to change

But she’ll never do it, no.”

Even though she’s high maintenance, on the bridge, Isaia makes it known, “I don’t want no one else providing for you / And I’ma show you.” Mr. Huron drops an enjoyable, well-rounded neo-soul gem with “This girl wants everything”.  It’s classy, but it still has some stank.

11. Jack White, “G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs”

G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs / Derecho Demonico » Third Man Records » 2026

Jack White, G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs / Derecho Demonico [📷: Third Man Records]

“Welcome to the Garden of Eden / There’s nobody here but me and you / So what we gonna be eating?”
Oh, snap, Jack White went biblical on us! It should go without saying, but I’mma say it anyway! The Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and producer is one of a kind. He continues to captivate with his original musical style. “G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs” is another tour de force, written and produced by himself.

“G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs” is tried and true Jack White.  No, not because it lacks innovation, but it is the type of record only he could compose, perform, produce, and record.  It kicks off with a dirty-sounding, heavy groove.  Other sounds that catch the ears are the sickening, bluesy, distorted, and noisy guitar riffs. Although there are plenty of colorful instrumental moments throughout, it is White who takes center stage. His vocals are distorted in a vintage, blues-rock, garage rock, and indie/alternative style.  He is far more than the distortion, though. Giving a performance where he sings and talk-sings, White carries “G.O.D.” thanks to his enormous personality. He sells this song like a champ. The song continues to reference the Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve. “Nobody left but one boy, one girl, and one other,” he sings in the second verse, and adds, “But you know we can’t live like a sister and a brother / They’re gonna make you a mother now.” In the third verse, he takes liberties with Eden’s location but still sneaks in “Gotta find a way to eat the fruit from the tree of fate.” The rest of the verses go beyond Eden but continue to yield alluring lyrics. The sixth and final verse is particularly striking: “Ring that bell then ring your neck / Write yourself a dime novel and then write yourself a check / Send yourself to hell in a hand basket, now, what the heck?” As to be expected with a Jack White song, “G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs” is one of a kind – one of one by all means! It is distinct, engaging, and ultimately, well-rounded.

“You say, ‘Do I ever cross your mind?’ / I say, ‘Only all the time’ / I say, ‘Only all the time’.”
Noted. Sooo, what happens when John Summit (John Walter Schuster), The Chainsmokers (Alex Pall and Drew Taggart), and Ilsey (Ilsey Juber) join forces? Magic, surefire vibes, and most of all, “ALL THE TIME”! “ALL THE TIME” is the ninth track from Summit’s 2026 album, CTRL ESCAPE. Summit, Juber, Taggart, Pall, and Jesse Fink composed “ALL THE TIME.” Summit and The Chainsmokers produced it, with Isley providing vocals.

John Summit, CTRL ESCAPE [📷: Experts Only / Darkroom Records]“ALL THE TIME” commences with an intense, crescendoing synth. Ilsey’s pitch-shifted vocals shine, accompanied by an electrifying groove and sickening synths. The vocal layering deserves a huge shout-out. The sound palette is one of the biggest selling points of “ALL THE TIME.” The melodies are tuneful throughout.  The lyrics are catchy and repetitive, which is on brand for dance music.  There is only one verse, which features the most distinct lyrics of the song (“There was a time / I thought I had everything I ever wanted / Now I go to sleep / Just to dream, waking up to see your eyes…”). The first build stands out (“When there’s nobody else”), where there is a gradual acceleration of the tempo (beginning circa 1:21). By 1:38 in, the tempo is lightning quick, and the intensity only ratchets up. All told, John Summit, The Chainsmokers, and Ilsey put in serious work on “ALL THE TIME”. From start to finish, this is a fun, fun, fun dance/electronic track.  No notes, only vibes!

13. John Summit & Feid, “CHICA 305”

CTRL ESCAPE » Experts Only / Darkroom Records » 2026

John Summit, CTRL ESCAPE [📷: Experts Only / Darkroom Records]

“Aquí solo sale el sol si vos querés / La toco toda, la siento en 3D / Estoy todo borrachito, ¿dónde me ves? / Me tiene viendo los colores en HD.”
¡Oh, mierda! Sooo, what does that mean, exactly? Translated to English, it reads something like this: “The sun only shines here if you want it to / I touch her all over, I feel her in 3D / I’m totally drunk, where do you see me? / She’s got me seeing colors in HD.” And then, I added the slightly vulgar reaction, Oh shit! Oops! Anyway, American DJ/producer John Summit (John Walter Schuster) and Colombian singer-songwriter Feid (Salomón Villada Hoyos) join forces for the energetic electronic-infused, Latin-pop song, “CHICA 305” (“Girl 305”, reference Miami, FL). “CHICA 305” is the eighth track from Summit’s 2026 album, CTRL ESCAPE. There were lots of cooks in the kitchen preparing the delicious “CHICA 305.” Summit and Feid composed the song alongside Wain, Thom Bridges, Beau Nox, Grimaldo Del Solar, Ramon Perez Prieto, and Rafael Morales. Summit ultimately produced it.

The party vibes are turned all the way up on “CHICA 305.” Feid brings the heat with his smooth, exuberant, and energetic vocal performance.  His melodies are tuneful.  While the lyrics are exclusively in Spanish, even if you don’t understand a lick, they are still engrossing to the nth degree.  See the refrain:

“Quiero quedarme contigo esta noche

[I want to stay with you tonight] Tómate un chorro y no importa si no me conoces

[Have a drink—it doesn’t matter if you don’t know me] Tú y yo bien encendío’ nos vamo’ pa’l bote

[You and I are really fired up—let’s head to the club] En Miami hay bebés y sos un bebesote

[There are babes in Miami, and you’re a total hottie].”

Initiate party mode! Summit’s high-flying musical backdrop and production match Feid’s energy.  The palette is vibrant, featuring an array of sounds.  The grooves groove hard, while the synths sizzle, particularly the darker, edgier ones.  The brass ups the ante, characteristic of Latin music through and through.  Ultimately, John Summit, you handsome, talented fella, you dropped another banger with “CHICA 305. The clubs are singing your praises… even more so if you keep taking off your shirt! Ooh-wee 😍!

14. Jungle, “Carry On”

Sunshine » Caiola Records / AWAL Recordings Ltd » 2026

Jungle, Sunshine [📷: Caiola Records / AWAL Recordings Ltd]

“I don’t wanna talk about all the things you’ve said and done / All you do is break my heart.”
That is a shame, isn’t it, Lydia Kitto? She continues in the first verse of “Carry On”, asking, “Are you ever coming home?” Kitto is now a permanent member of the London-based band, Jungle, comprised of J. Loyd (Josh Loyd-Watson) and Tom McFarland. “Carry On” is the promo single and sixth track from Jungle’s fifth studio album, Sunshine. Lloyd and Kitto composed “Carry On.” Lloyd, Kitto, and Jamie Lloyd-Taylor produced it.

It is easy to be hypnotized and mesmerized by the sheer beauty of “Carry On.” First and foremost, Lydia Kitto delivers an angelic vocal performance. She sings with ease, never forcing things.  Even with a calm, cool, and collected performance, she easily commands. Beyond her lead vocals, the harmonized background vocals are ‘to die for,’ too. These appear during the chorus, the section to beat. It’s simple but quite moving: “Carry on / No one’s ever made me feel this helpless.” The melodies are incredibly tuneful, while the lyrics are memorable and thoughtfully penned.  Beyond the voice and the words, “Carry On” thrives on a gorgeous sound palette.  The instruments that make the ears perk up include keys, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, and warm strings.  The groove cooks. From a first listen, “Carry On” is striking – a truly special song from Jungle.  Sometimes, it is simpler songs that pack a more sizable punch.

15. KATSEYE, “PINKY UP”

“PINKY UP” » HYBE UMG LLC » 2026

“One day soon, the world’s gonna end.”
True dat, Megan Skiendiel! The KATSEYE vocalist adds, “I’m gonna make out with my new bestest friends / I wanna live large, right before it all burns down.”  Um, sure – you do you, boo!  The carefree lyrics appear in the pop group’s single, “PINKY UP”. “PINKY UP” was written by Sorana, dwilly, Justin Tranter, Skyler Stonestreet, and Magsy. dwilly, “hitman” Bang, and FRANTS produced it.

Lara performs the introduction on “Pink Up,” which precedes the simple but infectious chorus: “Pinky up, up / Pink up, up /… Put this pinky up.” Woo! Different members of the group perform the unforgettable refrain throughout.  Megan, Daniela Avanzini, and Yoonchae Jeung perform the first verse, which features an  unforgettable lyric by Daniela: “Go hard like we’re robbin’ the Louvre.” I felt that! Lara, Sophia Laforteza, and Megan perform the first pre-chorus. Later, four members of KATSEYE see action in the unapologetic second verse.  “Us against the world, shaking ass in the parking lot,” Daniela asserts, and continues, “If we get arrested, haha, baby, laugh it off.” Yoonchae and Megan get philosophical – it’s giving Socrates! “PINKY UP” should not be overanalyzed, though.  This is a brief, energetic, and highly enjoyable electro-pop joint.  It slaps thanks to its vibrant production, quick pace, energetic vocals, tuneful melodies, and carefree theme and lyrics.

16. Kehlani, “Back and Forth” (Ft. Missy Elliott)

Kehlani » Atlantic Records Group LLC » 2026

Kehlani, Kehlani [📷: Atlantic Records Group LLC]

“This is an exclusive / Let’s go, new Kehlani.”
New Kehlani (Kehlani Parrish, she/they) is always a treat. The Grammy-winning R&B singer-songwriter taps Grammy-winning hip-hop icon Missy Elliott (Melissa Elliott) for the assist on “Back and Forth”.  “Back and Forth” is the seventh track from Kehlani’s 2026 self-titled album. Parrish wrote the song with Elliott, Khris Riddick-Tynes, Jonathan Yip, Ray Romulus, Jeremy Reeves, Ariowa Irosogie, Daniel Upchurch, and Dawit Kamal Wilson. Riddick-Tynes and The Stereotypes produced it.

“Back and Forth” begins with a signature Missy Elliott shout-out.  The nostalgia is real! From there, Missy drops a few bars, gassing up Kehlani.  Kehlani enters the mix with her glorious pipes in the first verse.  “Why you so quiet? / The silence hit like sirens,” they sing. She rides the smooth R&B backdrop like a champ, barely breaking a sweat.  Even though she doesn’t perspire, she still brings some bite to the centerpiece, the chorus:

“I ain’t goin’ back and forth tonight, I’m goin’ out

… I ain’t picking up the phone for nun’, nuh-uh, before the lights come on

…I ain’t going back and forth tonight, I’m out

(So don’t you start that shit when I get home).”

Missy Elliott contributes ad-libs to the verses, pre-chorus, chorus, and the post-chorus: “Let’s get it, let’s go.” Kehlani drops a second verse, filled with attitude. She asserts, “All your pride and jealousy (Uh-huh) / That’s gon’ make me leave you alone.” Mic drop! Beyond her ad-libs, Missy Elliott drops a playful, unapologetic bridge: “Nigga, I ain’t doing this tonight / I’m ‘bout to drive off… / All that back, back and forth got me feeling like Aaliyah.” All in all, Kehlani, with the help of Missy Elliott, drops an intriguing single with “Back and Forth”. It’s another consistent, highly enjoyable R&B joint.

“No matter what, no matter what / You got to strut.”
Woo! Hell yeah! And so begins “RUNWAY” by Grammy Award-winning artists Lady Gaga and Doechii. “RUNWAY” graces The Devil Wears Prada 2 soundtrack.  This fashionably fierce model-driven cut was written by Lady Gaga, Doechii, Bruno Mars, D’Mile, watt, Cirkut, and Jayda Love. It was produced by watt, Cirkut, Bruno Mars, and D’Mile. Sure, there are lots of cooks in the kitchen, but the song is well worth a loaded credit list!

Following the striking, low-pitched spoken-word intro excerpted above, a sickening beat and a vintage, electronic, house backdrop enter.  Lady Gaga wastes no time putting in work.  “Walk, I’m feeling fab / I’m feeling free, I feel exceptionally.” Get it, LG! She concludes the verse, asserting, “This paparazzi routine / Bitch, I came to be seen.” We see you, gurl! Doechii drops a bangin’ pre-chorus, where “Yes, serve a little sass / Yes, with a little side of ass…” The chorus, performed by both, eats! “Turn it up, turn around,” Gaga proclaims, with Doechii responding, “Bitch, Monday through Sunday / I can turn a dance floor into a runway.” Doechii gets her time to shine in the second verse, chock-full of confidence, dropping a compelling cadence and flow. “Cameras, flashing, lights on, fuck it up,” she asserts, and adds, “Click, click, click, click, everywhere I go / Get it, can’t get me, face card froze.” D-d-damn, gurl! There’s even more C-U-Next-Tuesday served on the bridge and the outro. “Pose / I ain’t scared of no cameras / Born for the runway / Sashay, Doech-ay.” All in all, Lady Gaga and Doechii ate and left no crumbs on the irresistibly delicious “RUNWAY”.

18. Mary J. Blige, “Want Love”

“Want Love” » Beautiful Life Productions » 2026

Mary J. Blige, Want Love [📷: Beautiful Life Productions]

“I need more than just a habit, babe, can’t do nothing temporary, babe.”
Noted, Mary J. Blige.  The Grammy-winning, Academy Award-nominated singer/actress continues to be in her ‘love bag’ in 2026 with “Want Love” following “More Than A Lover”.  She adds in the first verse that she is the “Missing piece to your puzzle, babe, I can show you some other things. Ooh-la-la, Mary! Blige, Blush, Camper, and Worldwide Fresh composed “Want Love.”  Blige and Camper produced it.

“Want Love” is about being in a mature space for love.  The second verse echoes the first, with Mary J. Blige seeking a man who is R-E-A-D-Y.  She makes it clear she is serious – not playing around! “If you, if you’re reading on the same page / I’m not here for playing kid games.” And of course, in the crème de la crème, the chorus, she just comes right out and speaks on the desires of her heart:

“I want somebody who makes me feel like everything

I want, want love, want love, want love

I don’t want nobody that won’t fight for me

I want, want love, want love, want love, oh.”

Oh, indeed! By the bridge, she cries foul about the BS: same thing, heartbreak, having to wait.  Ultimately, our girl just wants love, that’s all! Supported by lush, rhythmic, and vibrant adult contemporary R&B/grown-folks music accompaniment, Mary J. Blige eats! Her voice sounds expressive, nuanced, and refined, while she sounds authentic and sincere to the nth degree.  Listening to “Want Love”, there is no doubt whatsoever that MJB is seeking the one.  Those delightful, energetic ad-libs speak volumes, Mary!

19. Paul McCartney, “Days We Left Behind”

Paul McCartney, The Boys of Dungeon Lane [📷: MPL Communications Inc/Ltd / UMG Recordings, Inc.]

“Looking back / At white and black / Reminders of my past.”
And that past is an illustrious one. Paul McCartney (b. 1942) is a musical legend – an icon.  Pushing 84 years old, the English singer-songwriter unveiled the superb single, “Days We Left Behind”.  “Days” is the third track from his 2026 album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, his first brand-new album in six years. McCartney composed the song. He produced it with watt (Andrew Wotman).

Paul McCartney does not miss a beat on “Days We Left Behind.” His voice sounds amazing, 83 years in. His tone is flawless.  Adding to the beauty of his lead are the background vocals.  McCartney masterfully brings the melodies and reminiscent, thoughtful lyrics to life. In the first verse, excerpted earlier, he poignantly mentions those “Smoky bars and cheap guitars.” In the second verse, he specifically mentions the boys of dungeon lane, the name of the album, asserting, “Some of them will feel pain / But some of them are meant for more.” The chorus is the crème de la crème:

“Nothing ever stays

Nothing comes to mind

No one can erase

The days we left behind.”

Beyond the verses (three of them) and the chorus, the bridge distinguishes itself, all the while remembering the happenings of the past.  Here, Paul stands by a promise made, back at Forthlin Road in Liverpool. Beyond a well-preserved voice and thoughtful songwriting, the production is rock-solid, too.  The guitar accompaniment suits McCartney. Eventually, “Days We Left Behind” adds piano and bass.  The sound is more minimal than maximal, but sufficient, and perfectly suited to McCartney’s self-described “memory song.” Paul McCartney delivers the goods, as he has throughout his legendary career, on “Days We Left Behind”. To sound this awesome well into his eighties is quite a blessing.

20. Ravyn Lenae & Dominic Fike, “Reputation”

“Reputation” » Atlantic Recording Corporation » 2026

“Guess I’m the type of girl to waste my time / But I know it keeps you up at night.”
Ooh-wee! Sooo, what goes down when Ravyn Lenae and Dominic Fike collaborate? Why, “Reputation”, of course! His reputation is suspect on this engrossing single.  Lenae and Fike composed “Reputation.” Dahi and Ely Rise produced it. “Reputation” begins with a count-off by Dominic Fike.  Fike proceeds, performing the refrain, accompanied by rhythmic guitar accompaniment (“I’ll always put you first / I’m your three-letter word / I’m loyal to a fault / Just like a dog, just like a dog”). How loyal is he? Ravyn Lenae enters the mix, performing the first verse, pre-chorus, and chorus. She sings beautifully, never getting too high or too low. She brings it, performing with ease in a cool, calm, and collected fashion.  In the first verse, Ravyn believes her lover isn’t being honest – it’s giving a questionable, bad reputation!  In the pre-chorus, she informs him she stays with him because “I wanna believe / That it’s true what you’re saying to me.”  In the chorus, singing with more bite, supported by background vocals, Lenae questions his dedication and honesty, as well as her judgment:

“You look so good, boy, when you lie

I don’t know, maybe, I’m just in denial

Don’t wanna change your reputation

When I’m thinking of you…”

If she is speaking directly to Dominic Fike, she’s not lying – he is fine! Anyway, Fike follows with his response, in the refrain, excerpted earlier.  Then, he drops the second verse, giving his perspective.  Convincing? Not-so-much, but remember, he’s fine! After another chorus performed by Lenae, both perform the bridge. It distinguishes itself from the rest of the song while confirming their issues. Colorfully, Fike asserts, “I’m typical, tellin’ everybody I’m polygamist / Ms. Jackson, I/’m sorry, Ms. Jones, don’t stop dancin’ / Ooh, countin’ on you.”  Word.  All in all, “Reputation” is an intriguing collaboration between Ravyn Lenae and Dominic Fike.  Lenae and Fike give us some alternative, pop, and R&B on this relationship-driven cut.

21. Ruel, “Don’t Say That”

Kicking My Feet & Screaming » Recess Records Pty Ltd / Giant Music » 2026

Ruel, Don't Say That [📷: Recess Records Pty Ltd / Giant Music]

“I’m coming home, leave the light on.”
Will do, Ruel (Ruel Vincent Van Dijk), you handsome and talented fella!  In the first verse of “Don’t Say That”, he adds, “Oh, I drifted away, and I’m praying that I’m wrong / Keep me in the dark if it’s next to you.” Also, noted. “Don’t Say That” appears on his expanded 2026 LP, Kicking My Feet & Screaming. Van Dijk composed the song with Joel Little and Sean Douglas.  Little produced it with M-Phazes (Mark Landon).

“Don’t Say That” features warm instrumentation and sounds. Some of those sounds include keys and strings. Ruel sings expressively with incredible sincerity.  He begins singing with restraint, never breaking a sweat.  As the song progresses toward the chorus, he picks up steam. Notably, the first verse and most of the pre-chorus are percussion-less. The chorus is the crème de la crème. What makes it so good? A tuneful melody and memorable lyrics go a long way.

“Come on now, don’t say that

Don’t do something you can’t take back

Know I sound like a maniac

I just don’t wanna know (Ooh)

So just make it up

If I’m dreaming, don’t wake me up

Get me drunk on a half-full cup

‘Cause I just don’t wanna know (Ooh).”

The chorus is also groovier than the rest of the song.  The second verse (“I know my hearing’s selective / If I don’t like the truth, then I’ll just reject it”) begins with a groove, a direct contrast to the first verse.  The bridge, another high-flying section, was featured previously in the “dst (outro)” from Kicking My Feet (2025). It distinguishes itself from everything else. “Maybe it’s time to accept that it’s over / It’s best that you go,” he sings, and continues, “It’s been so nice to know ya / I promise I won’t try to change your made-up mind.” The harmonic progression changes as the key modulates.  The change of pace is welcome.  With the return of the chorus, the song also returns to familiar territory – key, groove, etc. Always good for a bop, Ruel brings it on “Don’t Say That”.

22. RYANN, “Dear Mother of My Ex…”

Dear Mother of My Ex…” » RYANN » 2026

RYANN, Dear Mother of My Ex... [📷: RYANN]

“Dear mother of my ex / You probably wonder why I don’t visit anymore / We didn’t say goodbye / And I think your son didn’t tell you why.”
That is quite the situation, RYANN (Ryan Adriaens). The Queer Netherlands pop singer/songwriter needs to tell his ex’s mom about what went down between him and her son. This suggests that the relationship that RYANN had with his ex-boyfriend was substantial since Mom is involved. On the enjoyable and honest “Dear Mother of My Ex…”, RYANN unveils his truth. Adriaens composed and produced the track.

“Dear Mother of My Ex…” is a vibe from the get-go.  It thrives on an infectious beat where the groove is grooving! Adding to the musical excellence are lovely keyboards, pads, and synths.  Although it is an emotional experience he sings about, RYANN keeps his performance cool, calm, and collected.  He informs his ex’s mom that she doesn’t know the full story.  In the second verse, he tells the mom that her son found someone new, said false things about him, and probably thought he was too gay. In the utterly infectious chorus, the centerpiece, he expresses that her son (his ex) cheated on him.  He doesn’t mince his words:

“Your son put his lips on someone else

He put his dick in someone else

Curious what he said to you, about this

I am not to blame; he made the mistake.”

That is transparency at its finest. If you are a gay man who is in a monogamous relationship (which can be rare, unfortunately), having sex with someone not your boyfriend is a no-no. The bridge contrasts the verses and chorus, adding some colorful pads.  Thematically, it relates to everything else. Even if he is heartbroken regarding his ex and sad that he no longer sees his ex’s mom, whom he admires, RYANN keeps his composure.  “Dear Mother of My Ex…” is another fabulous pop cut from this handsome, talented young man’s catalog.  He continues to keep things unapologetically queer, and who would have it any other way?

23. Suki Waterhouse, “Back in Love”

“Back in Love” » Confidence River, Inc. / Island Records » 2026

“Happiness hits me when / I’m back in love again.”
Have truer words ever been spoken? Love hits differently, PERIOD. English singer, songwriter, and actress Suki Waterhouse (Alice Suki Waterhouse) came back strong in 2026. What fueled her? Perhaps it was that power of love, judging by the title of her single, “Back in Love”. Waterhouse composed “Back in Love” with Jules Apollinaire and Findlay. Apollinaire produced it.

“Back in Love” is a bop from the start. Suki Waterhouse brings the vocals and personality consistently. The songwriting is also sweet, including the likes of “Loneliness is a feather bed / Sleeping on the couch instead,” and “Oh, you’re swinging to my body in time /… You know it’s been a hard day’s night.” Ooh-wee!  Of course, the chorus is where Suki’s bread is buttered:

“Oh, I’m loving my lust for life

Turning the dark to light

Happiness hits me when

I’m back in love again

Back to jazz on the radio

Back to beaches, away we go

Taking the long way home

Back in love again.”

Sweet! Also, sweet is the musical accompaniment supporting Suki.  Jules and Findlay hold down on the standard instrumentation (rhythm section, programming, etc.), while Sam Ewens accentuates with those exuberant, biting horns. If “Back in Love” is, indeed, the soundtrack to being back in love and being happy again, it is a fitting one.  I say it far too often, but Suki Waterhouse ate and left no crumbs on this one!

24. Tsatsamis, “Angelina”

“Angelina” » Listen Generously » 2026

Tsatsamis, Angelina [📷: Listen Generously]

“You put me out / When I sext you in the day.”
👀 Oh, really, Tsatsamis (he/him)? If it were you and me, you wouldn’t have to worry about that 🤭! It might make a far less interesting song, however.  “When you wanna talk, and I wanna touch / It only ever hurts you when I want your love.” Tsk, tsk, tsk. Clearly, Tsatsamis and his “Angelina” are in two different places when it comes to their relationship.  Touch is Tsatsamis’s love language, but it is not the case for Angelina.  He wrote this thrilling pop song himself and produced it with Clarence Clarity.

Tsatamis stands out in “Angelina” for many reasons. It begins with the sound, which is vibrant thanks to synths and an epic, danceable groove.  The harmonic underpinnings (harmonic progression) make “Angelina” sound much sweeter than the bore she’s portrayed as in the song 😏.  Tsatsamis sings angelically as he expresses his lust.  But his desire is unreciprocated. “When you wanna talk, and I wanna touch / When I wanna fuck, and you wanna rush,” he sings in the second pre-chorus, and continues, “When you want space, it hits like a punch / It only ever hurts you when I want your love.” Word. By the chorus, the centerpiece, these hard truths are loud and clear, and a break-up is imminent: “My Angelina / Oh, can’t you see it baby / We’re changing seasons /And you’re stuck in your ways.” It is hard for him to admit, but he is making sacrifices… sexually. Another high-flying moment of the song is the bridge.  It distinguishes itself from the verses and chorus, but it is also connected to the theme.

“It’s days like this, I see the end

When nothing’s wrong, but nothing bends

If it all fucks up, if the drugs won’t do

Whatever happens, just remember me, won’t you?”

It’s a bummer that things have fallen off between Tsatsamis and his Angelina, but “Angelina”, the song, is another bop from this talented fella. Great vocals, electrifying music, and compelling theme and lyrics make this a surefire winner for the queer pop standout.

“Yeah, you play games with love until it’s gone…”
Uh-oh, ZAYN (Zayn Malik). That’s not ideal! “You never get enough of what you want.” D-d-damn! Is the English pop singer-songwriter giving her a side eye on “Sideways”? NO, believe it or not.  The sideways hits differently on the second single and fourth track from his fifth studio album, KONNAKOL.  ZAYN composed “Sideways” with Jesse Shatkin, Stefan Johnson, Jordan K. Johnson, Oliver Peterhof, and Mozella. The Monsters & Strangerz and German produced it.

“Sideways” commences with distinct piano lines that set the tone. Later, other ear-catching instrumental moments include synthesized plucked sounds and an electrifying groove.  Upon entering, ZAYN sounds incredible.  His tone is beautiful, and he sings in an expressive and nuanced fashion. We would expect no less, of course. He brings the lovely melodies to life. The loveliest of those melodies arrives during the chorus, which is sideways in a different sort of way!

“I miss lookin’ at you sideways

Face-to-face with your lips on mine

And our legs on the pillowcase

Sideways, late at night with your love lying next to mine

I miss lookin’ at you sideways, sideways, sideways (Sideways).”

Oh, snap! Of course, the verses yield their own special moments. In the first verse, “You’re here, but you’re not tonight.” Hmm. In the second verse, she twists him up, “Then dangle your words like diamonds / They cut me, but I see through.” Dramatic, poetic, and unforgettable! All told, ZAYN drops another winning song with “Sideways”.  Great vocals, memorable theme and lyrics, and a colorful, sleek production make this song the cat’s meow.
