STELLA LEFTY, Lean In, Kiss Me | Song Review

With “Lean In, Kiss Me,” rising country singer-songwriter STELLA LEFTY delivers a brief, enjoyable, and sound country-pop single.

Country singer-songwriter STELLA LEFTY has questions, clearly! She also scored a breakthrough Billboard Hot 100 top three hit with her single “Boston”. “Lean In, Kiss Me”, the first track from her debut album, Long Way Home, gives the Gen-Z musician another triumphant song. “Lean In, Kiss Me” was written by LEFTY, Jacob Kasher, Grace Enger, Michael Pollack, Julia Michaels, and producer Joe Reeves.

“Lean In, Kiss Me” commences with a brief, traditional, countrified guitar accompaniment.  It doesn’t take long for STELLA LEFTY to begin singing.  Her performance is solid – expressive, nuanced, with no over-singing in sight. It’s well-rounded, PERIOD. The verses are pleasant; they are melodious and feature memorable lyrics. “Tell me if I spoke too soon,” she sings in the second verse, and continues, “But I kinda want you in my room / Do I make you wanna make a move?” Ooh-wee! Likewise, the chorus, excerpted earlier, is quite tuneful, featuring the most memorable lyrics of the song. Oh, and there’s banjo 🪕!

The bridge marks another win for STELLA: “Is it such a bad, is it such a bad thing, babe? Mm / Is it such a bad, is it such a bad thing, baby?” All in all, STELLA LEFTY strikes gold with “Lean In, Kiss Me”.  Perhaps it’s not groundbreaking or the second coming, but it’s a brief, enjoyable, and sound country-pop single.
