Snoh Aalegra, I Love You → Song Review

Grammy-nominated Swedish-Iranian R&B singer-songwriter Snoh Aalegra sings about a special, special L-O-V-E on “I Love You.”

“You’re the answer to every word.” Is Snoh Aalegra (Snoh Sheri Nowrozi) singing about God? No, not in “I Love You.” Spiritual words and references appear on the second track/second single from Legendary Love. But this song is about her M-A-N! Ooh-la-la! The Grammy-nominated Swedish-Iranian R&B singer-songwriter composed and produced “I Love You” with Compass and Josh Grant.

“I Love You” begins with extraterrestrial, space-like sounds. Snoh Aalegra asks in the intro, “Are you ready?” The single is a trip with its ultra-rhythmic, percussive groove and contemporary soul cues (rhythmic guitar, bass, and programming).  Aalegra impresses with her silky-smooth pipes.  Does she ever break a sweat as she sings? It sure doesn’t sound like it.  “You’re the reason I celebrate,” she sings in the first verse, and concludes, “I could swear that you’re heaven made.” Word.  Taken by him, in the second verse, she asserts, “I don’t know what it was before you /… But I want this forever more.” After being “Blessed beyond measure” during the pre-chorus, Snoh keeps it simple and to the point in the chorus:

“I love you, I love you

I love you, I love you.”

Beyond the ‘telling’ lyrics, striking synths enhance the chorus. “I Love You” shines thanks to its simplicity.  The theme is highly effective – love NEVER grows old.  The melodies are tuneful, while the lyrics are memorable. And of course, Snoh Aalegra ‘does the damn thing.’
