ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.Β I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isnβt extensive, but rather short and sweet.Β This week, I picked out SIX notable observations from the Billboard 200 π, Β and X observations from the Billboard Hot 100 π, with π Pop Smoke and π John Mayer Top debuting in the top two spots on the Billboard 200.Billboard 200 π
π The late π Pop Smoke finds himself in a familiar spot β no. 1.Β Thatβs right, his second posthumous album, πΏ Faith, debuts atop the Billboard 200.Β Worth noting, Smokeβs double platinum, posthumous debut album, πΏ Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon, ascends from no. 11 to no. 9 in its 55th week on the charts.
π Smoke bounces π Olivia Rodrigo from the top spot, where her platinum certified debut πΏ SOUR spent four nonconsecutive weeks at no. 1. Β This week, it slips to no. 3.
π Just behind Pop Smoke, π John Mayer debuts at no. 2 with his first album in four years, πΏ Sob Rock. Sob Rock bumped π Doja Cat and πΏ Planet Her out of the runner-up spot.Β Planet Her spent its first three weeks at no. 2.Β This week, it dips to no. 4.Β Β
π π Clairo sees her critically acclaimed sophomore album, πΏ Sling, debut at no. 17.Β Sling outperforms her debut album, πΏ Immunity, which debuted more modestly at no. 51 in 2019.
π π Dee Gees / π Foo Fighters earn a top 30 debut with πΏ Hail Satin (no. 27).Β Cracking the top 50 are π WILLOW (πΏ Lately I Feel Everything, no. 46), π Tedeschi Trucks Band featuring π Trey Anastasio (πΏ Layla Revisited β Live at Lockinβ, no. 47), and π ILLENIUM (πΏ Fallen Embers, no. 49).Β
