Playboi Carti Debuts at No. 1: Scanning the Charts, 2021, No. 1 [πŸ“·: AGWE, Brent Faulkner, Interscope, The Musical Hype, Pixabay]Scanning the Charts – Billboard 200 & Hot 100 (1/9/21): Playboi Carti debuts at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with Whole Lotta Red. Β

SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.Β  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye.Β  To reiterate what I said last week (Taylor Swift Easily Holds Off Paul McCartney), this column won’t be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that πŸ’© moving.Β  This week, I picked out FOUR notable observations πŸ”Ž from the Billboard 200 πŸ“‰, Β and THREE observations πŸ”Ž from the Billboard Hot 100 πŸ“‰, with πŸŽ™ Playboi Carti debuting at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his highly anticipated sophomore album, πŸ’Ώ Whole Lotta Red.

πŸ’ If the intro didn’t make it crystal clear, rapper πŸŽ™ Playboi Carti earns his first no. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with Playboi Carti, Whole Lotta Red [πŸ“·: AWGE / Interscope]his highly anticipated sophomore album, πŸ’Ώ Whole Lotta Red.Β  Per Keith Caulfield of Billboard, Carti moved 100,000 units.Β  Respectable numbers, not game changing. He knocks πŸŽ™ Taylor Swift out of the top spot with πŸ’Ώ Evermore slipping to no. 2.

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ Lil Durk saw πŸ’Ώ The Voice debut last week at a tepid no. 46 (following an off-cycle release). Expectedly, this week, it ascends to no. 3 after a full week of sales, streaming, etc.Β

πŸ’ Sometimes, the second charting week can be very meh. A prime example is the new πŸŽ™ Paul McCartney album, πŸ’Ώ McCartney III, which free falls from no. 2 to no. 37 in its second week.

πŸ’ Worth noting, in a very quiet week on the charts, there are numerous reentries. Among them are πŸŽ™ Frank Ocean (πŸ’Ώ Blonde, no. 134), πŸŽ™ Maluma (πŸ’Ώ Papi Juancho, no. 163) and πŸŽ™ Justin Bieber (πŸ’Ώ Changes, no. 176).

24kgoldn, "Mood" [πŸ“· : Records Label / Columbia]πŸ’ The 🎡 β€œMood” never seems to end for πŸŽ™ 24kGoldn and πŸŽ™ iann dior. Once more, the dominant hit retakes the no. 1 spot on the Hot 100.

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ SZA debuts at no. 38 on the Hot 100 with her latest single, 🎡 β€œGood Days,” which arrived on Christmas Day.

πŸ’ Given their performance on the Billboard 200, it’s not surprising to see πŸŽ™ Playboi Carti and πŸŽ™ Lil Durk chart several new songs on the Hot 100. Β Carti’s highest charting newbie is 🎡 β€œSlay3r” (no. 72), while Durk’s highest charter is 🎡 β€œStill Trappin’” with the late πŸŽ™ King Von at no. 53.
