Orville Peck, Too Little, Too Late | Song Review

Hot, openly gay country singer-songwriter Orville Peck delivers an energetic, surefire bop in “Too Little, Too Late,” ahead of his fourth album, Mule.

The hottest, openly gay country singer-songwriter of them all, Orville Peck, is back.  Yeah, we’ll never be able to unsee the South African-born artist’s a$$! But, as beautiful as he is (and I reiterate, he’s smoking hot), our focus is his music, which is also beautiful… smoking hot… sublime. “Too Little, Too Late” is the 11^th track on his fourth studio album, Mule (arriving September 18, 2026). “Too Little, Too Late” was written by Peck, Dan Wilson, and Steve Rusch.  Jay Joyce produced it.

“Too Little, Too Late” begins with compelling guitar riffs. Drums kick in. Later, claps add to the percussiveness. Orville Peck delivers assertive and commanding vocals. His tone is exceptional – it’s EVERYTHING.  The lyrics are simple but memorable, and the melodies, across all sections, are tuneful. “You’re back again, you wanna go,” he sings in the first verse, and continues, “Yeah, love songs on your radio / Those records are all burned out anyway.” The chorus is incredibly sweet and infectious to the nth degree.

The bridge distinguishes itself from the verses and chorus. It features a different harmonic progression and melody.  Still, it’s clearly related: “Little too late to wish you were mine / I’m all alone and, honey, I feel fine.” All in all, Orville Peck makes my ears perk up with “Too Little, Too Late”.  Those piercing blue eyes put in some serious work.  Great vocals, songwriting, production, and the works. A country bop to say the least!
