Scanning the Charts β Billboard 200 & Hot 100 (3/6/21): Morgan Wallen and Olivia Rodrigo continue their chart dominance.
SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. To reiterate what I said last week ( The Weeknd Settles for No. 2: Scanning the Charts
No. 7), this column wonβt be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that
moving. This week, I picked out SIX notable observations
from the Billboard 200
, and THREE observations
from the Billboard Hot 100
, with
Morgan Wallen spending a sixth week atop the Billboard 200 with
Dangerous: The Double Album, while
Olivia Rodrigo spends her sixth week atop the Billboard Hot 100 with βDrivers Licenseβ.
Billboard 200
Morgan Wallen was cancelled, but that hasnβt slowed
Dangerous: The Double Album, which spends its sixth consecutive week atop the Billboard 200.
Though
The Weeknd sees
The Highlights slide from no. 2 to no. 8, his βace in the holeβ,
After Hours, ascends from no. 37 to no. 2 in its 48th week on the chart.
With no new albums bowing in the top 10,
Judas and the Black Messiah: The Inspired Album (soundtrack) debuts at no. 12 as the highest debut.
It seems that the
Florida Georgia Line train has slowed quite a bit. The βbro countryβ duo debuts tepidly by their standards.
Life Rolls On launches at no. 21 β yikes!
The Pretty Reckless impact the Billboard 200 as well, with
Death By Rock and Roll launching at no. 28.
The big takeaway should be that there are a number of underperforming new albums by big-named artists. Pentatonix is among them as
The Lucky Ones bombs with its no. 123 start. Awful start for the Grammy-winning a cappella darlings.
Billboard Hot 100
Olivia Rodrigo spends a sixth consecutive week at no. 1 on the Hot 100 with
βDrivers Licenseβ.
Lil Tjay and
6LACK earn the highest debut on the Hot 100 with
βCalling My Phoneβ which launches at no. 3.
Taylor Swift continues to do her thing.
βLove Story (Taylorβs Version)β debuts at no. 11.
