“Be not deceived; God is not mocked.”
Amen 🙏, Mattie Moss Clark (1925 – 1994)!  God is all-knowing, omnipotent, and awesome.  You cannot pull a fast one on Him without reaping a whirlwind. The legendary choir director, composer, and mother of the Clark Sisters, composed a moving gospel record with “That Shall He Also Reap”. The lyrics come directly from Galatians 6:7: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” The NIV (New International Version) of the scripture reads similarly: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” The decisions you make matter, and if you make bad ones that attempt to deceive God, who can’t be deceived, there’ll be hell to pay. Mattie Moss Clark masterfully set the text of this key Biblical verse to music.

“That Shall He Also Reap” is an epic listening experience from the jump. It features a dramatic instrumental comprised of guitar, which delivers some striking riffs, swelling organ, and pummeling drums.  The lead vocalist is dynamic, bringing the meaningful scripture to life. The spirit is elevated, even more thanks to her gritty, gospelized riffs and flawless high notes. Adding to the musical experience is the anointed choir, singing in Moss Clark’s signature three-part harmonies, and in sections on the titular lyric.  Beyond the core of the song, additional sections distinguish themselves, amplifying the dramatic soundtrack of Galatians 6:7. More contemporary choirs should perform this rousing, spirited classic.
