Once more, Madonna makes us dance and ‘love’ on “Love Sensation,” the third single from her 15th studio album, CONFESSIONS II.
“Love Sensation” begins with groove, as any good dance/dance-pop should. The beat cooks, and so does Madonna! She serves up respectable vocals that fit the dance aesthetic to a T. Is she a powerhouse? No. Does she carry the tuneful melodies without a hitch? By all means. “Love Sensation” features a straightforward form: intro, verse, chorus, post-chorus, second verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, post-chorus, and outro. In the first verse, Madge touts their partner’s L-O-V-E: “When we go walking, sunlight’s all around you /… And did I mention? You always bring me / Bring me back with your pure intention.” Aww! In the second verse, she asserts, “Whenever I doubt you, I have a premonition / And I can see clearly where I should be / You set me free with your love sensation.” The chorus is the centerpiece, where the love is fire. “Baby, when you’re hear with me / There’s nothing that we cannot do.” Emphasis on DO! The bridge distinguishes itself from the rest of the song, while still connecting seamlessly to the theme: L-O-V-E. All in all, “Love Sensation” is an enjoyable, well-rounded dance cut from Madonna. Is it the second coming? A rebirth? The answer to both questions is no, but Madge has nothing more to prove at this point.
