Lenny Kravitz makes it clear he’s not happy with the current social-political climate on “It’s Enough,” the promo single for his forthcoming album, ‘Raise Vibration.’
It’s no secret that there’s plenty of folks who aren’t happy with the current state of affairs in the United States. Many minorities feel as if their voices are muted, even if they are speaking loud and clear. Veteran rocker Lenny Kravitz embodies political and social tension on “It’s Enough,” the promo single from his forthcoming album, Raise Vibration, which arrives September 7, 2018.
“It’s Enough” is a lengthy single, running eight minutes in duration. It benefits from an incredibly soulful groove that is reminiscent of the Marvin Gaye classic, “What’s Going On.” In addition to being soulful, the groove has a distinct, incredibly ‘percussive’ nature. Redundant? Perhaps, but listen, and you’ll catch the drift.
Lenny Kravitz sings about the many problems that occur in America on this socially-conscious gem. On the first verse, he tackles racial injustice, specifically shootings without any accountability. On the second verse, he’s skeptical of Middle East relations. On the third and final verse, Kravitz focuses his attention on corruption and lies. After each verse, there’s a distinct pre-chorus. Ultimately, a simple chorus sums up the sentiment of the times, including a f-bomb:
“It’s enough, it’s enough, it’s enough
In the system, you cannot trust
It’s enough, it’s enough
When the whole wide world is corrupt
It’s enough, it’s enough
And we all are just getting f*cked
It’s enough, it’s enough.”
Additionally, there’s a bridge, preceding the third verse that’s half spoken word and half sung. During the spoken word portion, Kravitz asks, “When will the desire for love / Outweigh the desire for power?”
Final Thoughts
All in all, Kravitz successfully captures the socially tense state of America on “It’s Enough.” It’s a bit long, but the music, vocals, and messaging are on-point.
