Kid Souf, DONT LIKE TO DANCE | Song Review

Although Kid Souf says he “DONT LIKE TO DANCE,” he delivers a brief, playful, summery dance bop that slaps something fierce.

Kid Souf (James Giardinelli, he/him) speaks his peace on “DONT LIKE TO DANCE”. Of course, it should come as no surprise that this brief song is a dance record.  And even though he asserts, “I can shoot my shot from the booth,” the dance floor is electrifying in his hands, which includes his voice, songwriting, and production.

“DONT LIKE TO DANCE” keeps things brief.  In honor of this brief song, I won’t belabor things. Kid Souf puts in work, PERIODT.  That work includes sleek, electronic production work.  The beat is sick, while the synths are punchy and vibrant. The backdrop kicks ass and takes names, serving as a surefire catalyst for ‘cutting a rug.’ Or, maybe you’re like Kid Souf, and you don’t like to dance either (“I’m just uncomfortable when I move”). Regardless, the body will be moving, even if from your seat… or the bedroom. Beyond the accompaniment, he also puts in work performing. The chorus, which is sung and was excerpted earlier, is infectious to the nth degree.  The hook is hooking, hard! The rapped, unpitched vocals also pack a punch. His flow is agile, and he’s playful with it. “Bass line, hit your waist line / I could just see you, call me Facetime / Order some shots on my tab,” he spits, adding, fittingly, that the dude’s “damn fine.” Ooh-wee! All told, “DONT LIKE TO DANCE” is a bop-and-half, thanks to its marvelous, clubby production, and the personality-filled performance by Kid Souf.  Whether he enjoys dancing or not, this shit slaps!
