Scanning the Charts β Billboard 200 & Hot 100 (4/3/21): Justin Bieber tops both charts, ending the reign of Morgan Wallen.
SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.Β I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye.Β To reiterate what I said last week (π Cardi B Moves Up to No. 1: Scanning the Charts π No. 12), this column wonβt be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that π© moving.Β This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations π from the Billboard 200 π, Β and FIVE observations π from the Billboard Hot 100 π, with π Justin Bieber topping both charts.
Billboard 200 πΒ
π As to be expected, π Justin Bieber launches at a familiar spot on the Billboard 200 β no. 1.Β πΏ Justice didnβt deliver extraordinary numbers, but they were respectable and more than enough to make the top spot change hands for the first time in nearly three months.
π π Lana Del Rey was unable to beat Bieber for the top spot, but she did secure no. 2 with πΏ Chemtrails Over the Country Club. Β She also managed to beat out the subject of the third takeawayβ¦
π After 10 consecutive weeks at no. 1, the reign of π Morgan Wallen has finally ended. Mr. East Tennessee slips to no. 3 with πΏ Dangerous: The Double Album.Β Donβt cry too much for Wallen β his pockets are loaded with paper.
π π Fleet Foxes reenters the Billboard 200 with their 2020 album πΏ Shore, which was reissued in an expanded edition.
π π Jon Batiste, known for being the bandleader on πΊ Late Night with Stephen Colbert and scoring the soundtrack to Disney/Pixarβs π¦ Soul, debuts quietly at no. 86 with πΏ We Are.
Billboard Hot 100 πΒ
π π Justin Bieber also tops the Billboard Hot 100.Β Assisted by π Daniel Caesar and π GIVΔON, Bieber debuts at no. 1 with π΅ βPeachesβ (βI got my peaches out in Georgia (Oh, yeah, shit) / I get my weed from California (That’s that shit)β).Β Of course, thatβs not the only song to debut from πΏ Justice. Β π΅ βAs I Amβ featuring π Khalid launches at no. 43 and π΅ βUnstableβ featuring π The Kid LAROI bows at no. 62 among many others on the bottom half of the Hot 100.
π π Cardi B was π΅ βUpβ to no. 1 for one week but slips to no. 2 following the ascent of βThe Biebz.βΒ Likewise, π Silk Sonic and π΅ βLeave the Door Openβ dip from no. 2 to no. 3.
π π Lil Tjay, π Polo G, and π Fivio Foreign debut at no. 42 with π΅ βHeadshotβ.
π π Rod Wave sees βTombstoneβ bow at no. 82.Β Worth noting, the single appears on his new album, πΏ SoulFly, which was released Friday, March 26, 2021.
π County singers π Chris Young and π Kane Brown score some chart love with π΅ βFamous Friends,β which launches at no. 94.
