Scanning the Charts β Billboard 200 & Hot 100 (4/3/21): Justin Bieber tops both charts, ending the reign of Morgan Wallen.
SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. To reiterate what I said last week ( Cardi B Moves Up to No. 1: Scanning the Charts
No. 12), this column wonβt be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that
moving. This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations
from the Billboard 200
, and FIVE observations
from the Billboard Hot 100
, with
Justin Bieber topping both charts.
Billboard 200
As to be expected,
Justin Bieber launches at a familiar spot on the Billboard 200 β no. 1.
Justice didnβt deliver extraordinary numbers, but they were respectable and more than enough to make the top spot change hands for the first time in nearly three months.
Lana Del Rey was unable to beat Bieber for the top spot, but she did secure no. 2 with
Chemtrails Over the Country Club. She also managed to beat out the subject of the third takeawayβ¦
After 10 consecutive weeks at no. 1, the reign of
Morgan Wallen has finally ended. Mr. East Tennessee slips to no. 3 with
Dangerous: The Double Album. Donβt cry too much for Wallen β his pockets are loaded with paper.
Fleet Foxes reenters the Billboard 200 with their 2020 album
Shore, which was reissued in an expanded edition.
Jon Batiste, known for being the bandleader on
Late Night with Stephen Colbert and scoring the soundtrack to Disney/Pixarβs
Soul, debuts quietly at no. 86 with
We Are.
Billboard Hot 100
Justin Bieber also tops the Billboard Hot 100. Assisted by
Daniel Caesar and
GIVΔON, Bieber debuts at no. 1 with
βPeachesβ (βI got my peaches out in Georgia (Oh, yeah, shit) / I get my weed from California (Thatβs that shit)β). Of course, thatβs not the only song to debut from
Justice.
βAs I Amβ featuring
Khalid launches at no. 43 and
βUnstableβ featuring
The Kid LAROI bows at no. 62 among many others on the bottom half of the Hot 100.
Cardi B was
βUpβ to no. 1 for one week but slips to no. 2 following the ascent of βThe Biebz.β Likewise,
Silk Sonic and
βLeave the Door Openβ dip from no. 2 to no. 3.
Lil Tjay,
Polo G, and
Fivio Foreign debut at no. 42 with
βHeadshotβ.
Rod Wave sees βTombstoneβ bow at no. 82. Worth noting, the single appears on his new album,
SoulFly, which was released Friday, March 26, 2021.
County singers
Chris Young and
Kane Brown score some chart love with
βFamous Friends,β which launches at no. 94.
