“IMMERZION”

As the title suggests, “IMMERZION” immerses the listener in THE PARTY DIDN’T FIX ME. An instrumental that accelerates in tempo, this one-minute joint, produced by Blake Xterra, sets the tone.  Ear-catching, “IMMERZION” is best experienced by listening.

“FEVER DREAMZ”

“Me confunde la realidad, eh / Tanta pastilla, oh / En mi sistema ya no… / Veo la vida igual / Ya no se siente igual, noo.”
“FEVER DREAMZ,” the first full-length song, is performed exclusively in Spanish.  The track features Saanleo, who produces alongside uGlyintheclub. “FEVER DREAMZ” shines thanks to its dazzling, sparkling rhythmic synths, which catch the ear from the beginning. Adding to the allure,  the beat slaps. Joaicon brings plenty of energy, singing sincerely. The lyrics suggest our artist is not in the best place. Translated into English, in the final three lines, Joaicon asserts, “Like a Rubik’s Cube, I confuse reality.” Word. The melodies are incredibly tuneful.  Even if you don’t understand Spanish, “FEVER DREAMZ” is an intriguing, two-minute-and-change vibe.

“OUTTA LOVE”

Following the Spanish-exclusive “FEVER DREAMZ”, “OUTTA LOVE” gives us Spanglish, in all of its glory. Qosmar and Keilo Beats produced it superbly. Like the preceding track, it is sleek, with warm, colorful synths and an infectious, syncopated reggaeton beat. Joaicon does the damn thing, once again. He wows with the tuneful melodies and memorable lyrics. The chorus is performed exclusively in English. Joaicon is unapologetic, letting a few swears fly:

“Please just let me live; you were never there for me

Everyone’s talking about love

And that shit is draining me

Get the fuck out of here

I need to save my energy

Everyone’s talking about love

And that shit is draining me.”

The Spanish lyrics are performed rhythmically. They lay well against the smooth, vibrant backdrop. All told, “OUTTA LOVE” gives Moreta another song that is ‘out of this world!’

“BITCHEZ EN SANTIAGO”

“Me tienes hipnotizao’, atrapao’ con un candao’ [You’ve got me hypnotized, locked up tight.]

Me tienes desesperao’, como un loco, aficiao’ [You’ve got me desperate—like a madman, completely hooked].”

“BITCHEZ EN SANTIAGO”. Now that’s a bold title. DimeloMore and Ouni Productor produced it. Like most of THE PARTY DIDN’T LIKE ME, there is more vibrant production work: colorful, looped synths and a banging Latin-tinged beat. Joaicon sings confidently. His rhythmic, tuneful melodic lines stand out once more. Most of “BITCHEZ” is in Spanish, like the lyric excerpted earlier. However, Joaicon also drops some sensual English lines: “It’s crazy how we end up here / Touching, kissing, and loving baby.” Ooh-la-la! There’s also the assertive “Make me your man / Over the dance floor all sweat.” “BITCHEZ,” like everything else, hits on THE PARTY DIDN’T LIKE ME.

“2NITE”

“I don’t want you to be lonely / I just wanna make you mine / We can keep this between us / You’re so fucking fine.”
Oh, snap, Joaicon! “2NITE” runs over a minute and a half – just enough time for Moreta to establish a vibe.  He wrote “2NITE” alongside Jossuell Jimenez.  On “2NITE,” Joaicon sounds sexy. His bilingual abilities are a part of the track’s charm.  Of course, when it comes to swearing, he drops that f-bomb like a champ.  Matters of the heart drive the narrative.  The production has a hypnotic, mesmerizing quality.  The backdrop is non troppo (not too much), but serves as a respectable, solid accompaniment.  In short, “2NITE” is a brief, enjoyable vibe. It is a highlight from THE PARTY DIDN’T FIX ME.

“ANGELZ INTERLUDE”

“ANGELZ INTERLUDE” gives THE PARTY DIDN’T FIX ME its second instrumental. Produced by Snufflecat, “ANGELZ” features sophisticated strings.

“ICONZ ANTHEM”

“ICONZ ANTHEM” is primarily in English, with a verse in Spanish.  Joaicon concludes the verse unapologetically, asserting, “Your words won’t ever break my heart, bitch.” Damn! And for good measure, he adds, “Don’t fuck with me, or my people (You will regret it).” Noted.  Full Life Music and Ouni Productor produced this iconic moment from THE PARTY DIDN’T FIX ME. I love the chilly synths, electrifying beat, and anchoring synth bass line.  Moreta exudes confidence while performing in a breathy undertone.  “ICONZ ANTHEM” is ready-made for the dance floor.  There is no way you listen to this one and don’t move your body.

“CTRL G”

“No puedo concentrarme / No puedo olvidarte / Te veo en todas partes / Tu recuerdo va a matarme.”
In English, those lyrics translate as “I can’t concentrate / I can’t forget you / I see you everywhere / Your memory is going to kill me.” Like “2NITE”, “CTRL G” was released as a single in 2024.  Once again, we get the best of both worlds: Spanglish, baby! “CTRL G” was produced by Tomas Dibela and Jossuell Jimenez. The warm instrumental intro sets the tone. Joaicon serves up beautiful, easygoing singing. He never sounds as if he breaks a sweat. Adding to the allure of the record, there are pitch-shifted vocals (part of the backdrop) once the beat ups the ante. Contrast arrives near the end of “CTRL G,” keeping things engaging.

“PARTYBOYZ”

“Que to el mundo se enteré que yo te robe / Y si esto se repite, lo hacemo otra ve.”
In the penultimate track, “PARTYBOYZ,” Joaicon taps Dominican rapper Hugo Star for the assist. Spanish is king here, with a few English lyrics interspersed. Stitching up the track are producers Prod by tx, Tomas Dibela, and Keilo Beats. There are low pitch-shifted vocals, which sound awesome against the warm backdrop.  The beat is electrifying, propelling “PARTYBOYZ” to higher heights. Joaicon brings it with his agile, rhythmic melodic lines.  He is confident, selling the lyrics like a C-H-A-M-P.  As for Hugo Star, he accentuates, providing contrast to Moreta with his sharp Spanish rhymes.  “PARTYBOYZ” could be described as indulgent, but in the best way possible.

“THE END”

“I hope you know this is the end of / You, you and me.”
What better way is there to close THE PARTY DIDN’T FIX ME than with “THE END?” “THE END” begins enigmatically, with a nebulous-sounding, sometimes detuned pad. This record has an experimental sound compared to the rest of THE PARTY DIDN’T FIX ME, with some shifts in tempo and production. Joaicon performs in spoken word, which has an intriguing effect.  Notably, “THE END” features rising producer KIN-KÁN TAÍNO (Ámbar Lugo). Ultimately, it’s a fine coda. Moreta concludes, “The Party Didn’t Fix Me… But love did.”

The Verdict

So, how did the handsome and talented Joaicon do on his debut album, THE PARTY DIDN’T FIX ME? Very well, by my estimations.  This brief but potent LP has something for everybody.  Joan successfully highlights his Dominican musical background, while also fabulously integrating various musical styles, and of course, his fair share of English lyrics. The potential is potential-ing on this project that more folks need to know about and be listening to. If you haven’t introduced Joaicon into your life, yet, now’s the perfect time!
