In the 34th edition of Music Lifts (2026), we’re uplifted by Jabari Johnson, featuring Todd Galberth, performing “Have Your Way.”
Welcome to Music Lifts, featuring songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity. Featured songs aren’t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights! So, for the 34th edition of Music Lifts (2026), we’re highlighting “Have Your Way,” performed by Jabari Johnson.
“Have Your Way” commences with a divine, enigmatic opening crescendo. It leads to sparkling, celestial-sounding keyboard riffs. The production sounds refined, reverent, sophisticated, and incredibly warm. As Jabari’s vocals enter, the drums, namely the kick, provide a fine percussive and rhythmic anchor. Johnson’s pipes match the reverence of the backdrop. Although never over-sung, his vocals are assertive, authentic, sincere, and soulful. As the record progresses, the lead grows grittier, emphasizing the powerful message of God’s greatness, mercifulness, omniscience, and wonder-working power. “We can’t walk without you / We can’t talk without you,” he sings, assisted by gorgeous background vocals, and continues, “We can’t live without you / Have your way.” Later, those background vocals often carry the melody as the lead ad-lib, riff, and emphasize key points. Another key moment from “Have Your Way” is the repentance of sins:
“If it’s not pleasing to You, take it out of me
If it’s not pleasing to You, take it out of me
If it’s not pleasing to You, take it out of me
Have your way.”
Yes, Lord! Also, amplifying the spirit are the powerful, triumphant “Oh(s).” “Have Your Way” is nearly a decade old – let that sink in! Even so, it’s timeless; a true testament of faith. No matter how many times you hear this song, it’s a blessing!
